Chapter 209 - Chapter 209: Another Death Among the White Eagle Eight?

Who wouldn't be drawn to a girl as beautiful and charming as Elysia?

Of course, Elysia's initial intention wasn't to win anyone over. She had no idea that her few words had nearly turned a straight woman gay. Her sole purpose was to establish connections with the locals and secure a legitimate identity.

Upon learning that Elysia was an Outsider, Carolina naturally volunteered to help, immediately taking her to the local White Tower.

The White Tower was a place name. While White Eagle didn't have an official organization, the White Eagle Eight and their subordinates needed a place to gather and communicate.

Thus, across White Eagle territory stood eight pristine white towers. Rather than resembling a Bureau of Anomalous Investigations, these towers were more akin to the Avengers Tower or the Justice League's headquarters.

However, not all members of the White Eagle Eight resided in the White Towers. For example, the former Martyr lived a monastic life of asceticism in a secluded chapel, while the current Mad Lion wasn't even in White Eagle territory, content to act as a hands-off leader.

Even with the White Eagle Eight away, the nation still needed to function. Therefore, in addition to obeying their orders, the White Tower possessed certain autonomous powers, such as the authority to make decisions regarding Dimensional Rifts.

Carolina explained, "Our leader—one of the White Eagle Eight—isn't like those absentee bosses. She actually lives in the White Tower and works tirelessly every day! She's wonderful! I'll take you to meet her right now."

However, Elysia's focus wasn't quite what Carolina expected. She blinked her eyes, a look of eager anticipation on her face. "Another cute girl? Let's hurry! I can't wait~"

The real Elysia was undoubtedly a lesbian. But Ely, who had transmigrated into this world as a girl about six months ago, still found herself drawn to soft, sweet, and adorable girls. That hadn't changed.

So, was her current situation considered normal heterosexual attraction, or was she still a lesbian?

Hearing Elysia's words, Carolina visibly froze, stunned. After a moment of silence, she blurted out, "So... Elysia, you like girls, right?"

In the Dragon Nation, such a direct question would be unthinkable. But this was the White Eagle, a land of freedom, where directly asking someone if they were a lesbian, while shocking, wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elysia smiled. "Of course! Who doesn't adore cute and pretty girls? But it's more than that. I also love brave people, kind people, adorable people... all sorts of people! I love this world, the azure sky, the gentle breeze—everything here is so wonderful!"

The true Elysia could be summed up in one sentence: a god who loved humanity and longed to become human.

Carolina's expectations had been completely overturned. She had anticipated a simple "yes" or "no," but instead received this overwhelmingly flirtatious response.

For some reason, as Carolina watched the pink-haired girl beside her gaze up at the blue sky with a sweet smile, she found herself growing even more fond of her.

As they talked, they quickly approached their destination. In the distance, Elysia spotted the towering white spire that pierced the sky, its fifty-plus stories gleaming prominently in the sunlight.

But as they drew closer, she noticed a large crowd gathered around the White Tower, all staring upward with solemn expressions. The atmosphere was heavy with tension.

Elysia narrowed her eyes and then spotted a jarring anomaly: a conspicuous gap in the pristine white tower's edge. Beside the opening, a shadowy figure was impaled against the wall by a sword, its features obscured by the distance.

"Lady Kaya?"

"How could this be...?"

"What's happening?!"

Shocked voices erupted from the crowd. The impaled figure, identified as Lady Kaya, was none other than one of the White Eagle Eight, the council responsible for governing this region.

It seemed that someone had recently infiltrated the White Tower, the supposed headquarters of the White Eagle Eight, assassinated one of their highest rulers, and impaled her body on the tower's wall for all to see.

This was undoubtedly a blatant act of humiliation and provocation!

Judging by the reactions of those around her, Elysia realized that most people in the White Tower were unaware of the incident. This suggested that no fierce battle had taken place, implying a vast disparity in combat prowess—the White Eagle Eight member had been killed with shocking ease.

Carolina stared at the scene in horror. "This... how could this happen?!"

It's worth noting that the White Eagle Eight member in question wasn't one of the original members. This territory had once belonged to the Martyr, and after his death, the White Eagle had held a tournament to select new members.

The deceased "Lady Kaya" had been the victor of that tournament, having only recently joined the ranks of the White Eagle Eight. This explained why she was residing in the White Tower—a newly appointed official often burns with zeal, and her workload would have been overwhelming as she settled into her new role.

Having only recently taken office, Lady Kaya hadn't yet acquired nicknames like "Hunter" or "Hermit," titles typically bestowed by others rather than chosen by the individuals themselves.

In essence, Lady Kaya was a leader hastily appointed during a time of crisis. While her strength undoubtedly paled in comparison to the veteran White Eagle Eight, she was nonetheless one of the organization's highest-ranking members—and she had been killed within her own territory.

The next moment, chaos erupted.

"Damn it! Who's the killer?!"

"He couldn't have gotten far! Find him!"

"I can help! My ability allows me to rewind recent events. Let me try... AAAAAH!"

But before the man could finish speaking, he suddenly clutched his head and howled in agony, crimson blood oozing from his eyes and ears.
