Chapter 228 - Tang San’s Life and Death Escape

It wasn't long before most of the medicinal herbs surrounding the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well had been collected by Ao Tian. The most precious ones had already been stored away.

Now, Ao Tian began working on the more common herbs.

After all, alchemy didn't rely on a single herb—it required many ingredients working together. As long as they were useful, Ao Tian picked them, even if their age was a bit lower.

Tang San's heart was completely drowned in despair. He no longer held any hope of obtaining those immortal herbs.

Unless Dugu Bo suddenly appeared right now and killed Ao Tian, there was no chance left.

But Tang San knew clearly—Dugu Bo wouldn't arrive until tomorrow.

Watching Ao Tian diligently gathering herbs, Tang San's eyes flickered with calculation.

He wanted to use this chance to escape.

Ao Tian had crushed his bones earlier without so much as frowning. And since Tang San had twice tried to assassinate him, he couldn't be sure if Ao Tian would really let him live once the harvesting was over.

His fate had to be in his own hands. Relying on Ao Tian's mercy would only be gambling with his life—something Tang San never did.

But his arms and legs were broken, and his internal organs had been injured when Ao Tian smashed him against the cliff wall. Escaping would be extremely difficult.

Seeing Ao Tian nearly done with his harvest, Tang San gritted his teeth and made up his mind.

With a thought, the External Soul Bone—Eight Spider Lances silently extended from his back and lifted his body up from the ground.

Ao Tian had moved to the opposite side of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, putting a decent distance between them.

The valley floor was constantly steaming because of the extreme heat and cold mingling from the well. Dense white mist filled the air—perfect cover for Tang San.

This is my only chance.

Supported by his Eight Spider Lances, Tang San began climbing up the cliff.

The eight spider legs easily pierced into cracks and crevices, carrying him upward with astonishing speed.

At that moment, Tang San was like a real spider, moving swiftly and silently.

Activating his Purple Demon Eye, he precisely located the fissures in the rock, alternating his spider legs as he climbed higher.

After ascending several dozen meters, he glanced down. The valley below was completely covered in thick mist—he could no longer see the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well or Ao Tian.

Only with the Purple Demon Eye could his vision pierce through the fog.

Through it, he saw Ao Tian still happily collecting herbs, completely unaware that Tang San was escaping.

"Ao Tian, if I don't avenge this, I, Tang San, swear I'm no man!" Tang San swore viciously in his heart. Without lingering, he continued to climb upward as fast as he could.

Ao Tian's strength was terrifying, and he possessed formidable Soul Tools. If he discovered Tang San's escape, he'd definitely give chase—and then it would truly be a matter of life and death.

He had to reach the top quickly, use the forest as cover, and flee as far as possible.

The Sunset Forest was full of thousand-year Soul Beasts. Though his limbs were crippled, his soul power was still intact, and he could still use soul skills. Combined with his Eight Spider Lances, as long as he didn't run into any ten-thousand-year beasts, he had a good chance of surviving.

Just as Tang San climbed about fifty or sixty meters, a sudden whistling sound shot up from below.

His face changed instantly. While continuing upward, he twisted his head to look down—

A fist-sized rock tore through the fog below, screaming through the air, and in an instant slammed into Tang San's back!

The time from the sound to impact was too short for him to react.

Bang! Crack! Crack!

The stone smashed into his back, shattering two of his spider legs instantly.

Tang San coughed up blood from the force.

He had been using his Xuan Tian Gong to temporarily suppress his internal injuries, but this blow completely broke that fragile balance.

Blood splattered across the cliff as his body fell downward.

The remaining six spider legs flailed wildly until, after dropping ten meters, they managed to stab into the rock again.

Before he could catch his breath, more whooshing sounds came from below—several more stones launched upward.

Tang San was ready this time, but it didn't matter. The stones still struck true, smashing the remaining six spider legs one by one.

His heart trembled with shock. He was now at least fifty meters above the ground, over a hundred meters from Ao Tian.

How could Ao Tian still strike him with such pinpoint accuracy from that distance—and with such terrifying power?

"Did his strength advance again…?" Tang San's thoughts raced in horror.

But he didn't have time to think further. With all eight spider legs broken and his body crippled, falling from fifty meters meant certain death.

He swung his broken spider legs desperately, trying to pierce the cliff again, but their sharp tips were gone—he couldn't latch onto anything.

He tried to grab the wall with his hands, but his shattered bones made that impossible.

He fell faster and faster.

Desperately, several Blue Silver Grass vines shot out from his palms, wrapping around his body and reaching toward the cliff, trying to latch onto anything they could.

Tang San's will to survive was incredibly strong. Any other soul master would've closed their eyes and awaited death by now, but not him.

He had already died once—he cherished his life more than anyone.

As long as there was the faintest glimmer of hope, he would not give up.

But despair followed quickly—there was nothing the Blue Silver Grass could wrap around.

He was plummeting faster, the rocky ground rushing up to meet him.

At the last moment, Tang San's soul power erupted completely, layers of Blue Silver Grass cocooning him tightly.

Then—boom!

He slammed into the ground.

The valley floor was damp but littered with rocks. His impact carved a deep crater into the earth.

The Blue Silver Grass had absorbed much of the force, but the remaining shock still ravaged his body.

Blood gushed from his mouth again as he lost consciousness.

By the edge of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Ao Tian watched the scene and shook his head.

He knew Tang San wouldn't die so easily. If he were killed by a fall like that, then he wouldn't be Tang San.

Tang San's injuries were worse than ever—his limbs shattered, Eight Spider Lances broken, internal organs badly damaged. It was a pitiful sight.

"To harbor killing intent toward me… this punishment is already merciful," Ao Tian muttered.

Standing up straight, he glanced at the boiling Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. His gaze penetrated the depths, where two dragon corpses lay—one of ice, one of fire.

The residual energies from their bodies intertwined, maintaining a strange equilibrium. That balance was what had created this miraculous place.

Ao Tian observed quietly, then sighed inwardly.

Those dragons had been dead for countless years. Only faint remnants of their instincts lingered—revival was impossible.

Withdrawing his gaze, Ao Tian walked over to Tang San's motionless body and checked his condition.

The injuries were severe, yet the Xuan Tian Gong within Tang San still circulated on its own, preventing his life force from collapsing.

Ao Tian shook his head and turned away.

He hadn't planned to injure Tang San this badly at first, but Tang San had twice ambushed him for the sake of these herbs.

Not killing him was already showing great mercy.

Still, punishment was necessary.

"I wonder if he'll ever have the courage to raise his hand against me again," Ao Tian thought as he left the valley.
