Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The 13th ending

"Adeliade, how could you do such a thing?"

Silence filled the room.

Every eye in the room stared at one person, their gaze filled with anger and disgust.

One of the eyes stared Adelaide down with utter disappointment. "I didn't know you were ever capable of poisoning someone, Adelaide. However, you managed to poison your sister.."

Another, stared with rage. "Leave. Don't come back. Your not welcome here, you never were. We just didn't have enough of a reason to kick you out."

Finally, a pair of eyes, gleaming in the dim candle light, spoke with sadness "I-its ok...Adeliade. I am sure it was an accident, i am sure...you wouldnt do that." Their eyes started to flood. They turned away and hide their face behind one of their brothers.

Adeliade, however, simply sat upright and slide her finger over a wine glass, tracing the perfect circle tip. Round and round, until the finger stopped at the 13th full circle. Adelaide sighed. She was tired, very tired. It seemed to never end. She lifted the glass and tipped the wine into her mouth. Slowly and surely.

At the final sip, Adeliade coughed. Blood, dripped from her mouth. She smirked "Ah....haha." She was oddly calm. Everyone in the room started to panic.

"What?? Are you trying to make us pity you by poisioning yourself too!??!

"Hah! As if we are falling for that"

"..."

However, there was only one person. Only one, who didnt show any sigh of remorse. Only one, whose smirk didnt fade. Adeliade took one finaly look up, before collapsing to her end.

[THE END]

[CONGRATES! YOU HAVE REACHED THE 13TH ENDING OF THE GAME]

[WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY AGAIN?]

...

"What?"

A girl in her mid 20s furiously threw the gaming console to the other end of the room.

"What kind of ending is that?? Why does it only show the Anagonists death and ends?? Where is the happily ever after?!?"

The girl kicked her feet and screamed at her pillow. She couldnt let the neighbours hear her. It was already 3am and when you live in an apartment, it was an unspoken rule not to make loud noises late at night, unless you wanted the landlord at your doorset the next morning.

She slid of her bed and grabbed the console from the floor while shaking it. "What. Is. Wrong. With. This. Game.?!?!"

She threw it again, but this time, it landed on her bed. She sighed in defeat. Why did she even buy that game? Was it because it had a nice cover? No..she has never played these types of games before.

She climbed back onto her bed and flopped onto her pillows, staring into the ceiling. Recalling back, her life had always been mundane, it seemed like a filler for a movie, like she was a side character waiting for their part to play. Until then, it seemed like everything was just average, like there wasnt much to do. Was this really it?

She sighed again, and turned towards the gaming console. "Why did i buy it..." she murmured. Not once had she every tried playing games. She knew she wouldnt enjoy it. She would read, occasionally, but she also seemed to think she was wasting her time, so she would stop and do something else.

However, today was different. Today, she got fired from her job. Today, she took herself to the expensive bakery that she had always wanted to try and bought an extra large chocolate donut, just for herself. Today, she brought herself to the lake near her apartment and simply sat down and enjoyed the quiet.

She had never done this before. Life, was always a rush, always a game she needed to play. Something, that had never truely worked out for her. Maybe thats why, as she was on her way back to her apartment, she decided to enter a game console shop and purchase a game that had always caught her eye. A game that had never failed to be displayed on the very front of the shop, for as long as she had lived there.

She grew curious, and suddenly, she was at home at 3am screaming into her pillow because she hated the endings. "Why does this game have the lousiest main character ever?!? What is even the point? Why are there love interests when the game isnt even about love??"

The game was indeed not about love, as the cover would suggest. It was about revenge and complications. It was about the end of a world and the anatgonist that brings it. Adeliade, the anathonist was said to be the one that brought ruin to the world and Arlene, the main character, would be the one to save it.

It was a twisted half-baked story with decent graphics. Thats it, but the girl wasn't satisfied. She was already knee deep in this game and she had to see a good ending. A proper ending. So, she picked up the console again and pressed play.
