Despite her determined departure, Liliette didn’t manage to find Vlad.
The infirmary was located one floor below the drawing room where she had been waiting. The first floor of Cadis Castle was designed to accommodate wounded soldiers, but Vlad had chosen a private room reserved for officers.
She hurried down the stairs, only to come to an abrupt halt. Standing in her path, alone and without his usual escort, was the last person she wanted to see—Prince Marius.
His aide and knights were nowhere in sight. His disheveled uniform had been replaced with a pristine one, yet his presence alone was enough to unsettle her.
“Liliette de Winter, at your service, Your Highness,” she said, lowering into a graceful curtsy.
