On a plain at the border between the Land of Rain and the Land of Birds, the allied forces of Konoha and Kumogakure stood facing off against the joint forces of Sunagakure and Iwagakure from a distance.
The overall commander of the Konoha-Kumo alliance was Senju Fuji, once the captain of the Second Hokage Fujibirama's personal guard. His mastery of Water Release was peerless.
Opposing them were the two supreme commanders: the Third Kazekage, and the Third Tsuchikage.
Meanwhile, the Third Mizukage, and his elite Mist ninja had yet to return to the Land of Water. Since departing Roran, they had remained encamped nearby.
That morning, the Suna and Iwa forces began to advance on the Konoha-Kumo defensive line, bringing the situation to the brink of war.
Yet, what puzzled Fuji was that the enemy didn't launch a swift assault.
Instead, the two armies merged and set up camp just under ten kilometers from their line, constructing solid defensive fortifications with remarkable speed, ready to attack or defend as the situation demanded.
They had taken the geographic upper hand.
Though the battle hadn't begun, Fuji knew better than to relax. He quickly dispatched a report to the village detailing the enemy's movements.
By dusk that day, the enemy forces still hadn't made a move. Their inaction left Fuji unable to determine their true strategy.
To prevent a surprise attack, Fuji kept his armor on through the night, sleeping in short bursts.
He had also dispatched many Hyuga clansmen into patrol units, weaving a tight net of surveillance, and ordered code phrases to be exchanged every ten seconds.
Around midnight, Fuji grew weary, his eyelids heavy. After confirming that his defenses were secure, he summoned his aide, Senju Ryuji, and instructed him to wake him in half an hour.
Feeling at ease, Fuji shut his eyes for a short rest.
It was unclear how much time had passed when a series of knocks startled him awake.
Inside the tent, darkness reigned. The candle on the table had long since burned out. Strangely, no one had come to light a new one.
Fuji counted the knocks, five in total, and muttered, "Just closed my eyes, and it's already been half the night?"
He called out twice, but no one answered.
A vague sense of unease crept over him, but he couldn't sense any immediate danger.
He rose swiftly from his lounge chair, exited the tent, and stormed over to Ryuji.
"The candle's gone out," Fuji snapped. "Why didn't you replace it? And didn't I tell you to wake me in half an hour? Where were you just now when I called?"
Ryuji gave him a pitiful look, clearly flustered and hesitant to speak.
Fuji frowned. "What's with the sulky face? Can't take a few words of criticism from your uncle? Tch, when we get back, I'll drill that soft attitude right out of you!"
Just then, a familiar voice rang out from behind. "Uncle Fuji, it's been a while!"
Fuji immediately recognized the voice, it belonged to none other than the pride of the Senju clan, the Third Hokage, Arima.
He quickly forgot about scolding his nephew and turned around to see Arima, brimming with energy.
Fuji clapped a hand on Arima's shoulder, grinning in relief. "Arima! It's been too long. You had your uncle worried sick. I'm glad you're back."
Arima had grown up under Fuji's care, especially during his first campaign when Fuji had personally led the mission.
Seeing family again warmed Arima's heart. "Thank you for your concern, Uncle. I'm here to end this war. By sunrise, I imagine everyone will be preparing to return home."
As he spoke, confidence shone in Arima's eyes, so absolute that no one could doubt his words.
Only now did Fuji notice something unusual about Arima's right eye. "Your eye…?"
Arima smiled. "Don't worry, Uncle. This is a new power I've recently acquired."
Fuji nodded stiffly. Though Arima seemed unconcerned, Fuji kept his unease to himself.
Arima turned to Ryuji. "I've got things handled here. Go get some rest."
Fuji waved his hand to back Arima up, nodding slightly.
Ryuji, sensing the mood, tactfully withdrew.
As Fuji and Arima made their way to the command tent, Arima explained, "When I arrived, you were sound asleep, so I told Ryuji not to disturb you. Don't blame him."
Fuji laughed. "The moment I saw you, I had a hunch! Still, that brat needs more training. Kids raised in peaceful times lack grit. On the battlefield, that's a fatal flaw!"
They arrived at the tent, and Arima lifted the flap for them to enter.
Seated, Arima gave a small smile. "In the near future, I plan to unite the ninja world. I think we'll see the end of war very soon."
Fuji had barely sat down when he nearly fell off his chair in shock.
Steadying himself, he asked seriously, "Arima, you're not joking, are you?"
Arima nodded solemnly. "I'm serious. Not a word of exaggeration."
Fuji slammed the table, overcome with excitement. "Incredible! You're about to finish what the old clan head couldn't! Lord Hashirama must be smiling down from the Pure Land!"
Hearing his grandfather's name stirred a deep sense of longing in Arima.
He recalled how, when he was a child, his grandfather would say, "Arima, I hope one day the rest of the world can be as peaceful and happy as Konoha."
Back then, young Arima had replied in his innocent voice, "Grandpa, I'll make your dream come true!"
Hashirama had laughed heartily, hugged the boy tight, and asked, "And how can you be so sure, little one?"
The child pointed to his head. "Because I can hear the Sage's voice!"
Hashirama had chuckled again, ruffling his grandson's hair. "Good! Good! Our little Arima will grow into a great hero of the ninja world!"
Recalling the memory, Arima couldn't help but smile warmly.
Fuji sensed Arima's elation and thought, 'Nothing beats a good mood after good news.'
Arima returned to the moment. "Uncle, I'm going to meet with the three Kage. You and the others wait for my word."
"You don't want us to back you up?" Fuji asked.
Arima waved it off. "Just brew me a pot of hot tea. It'll be just right when I return."
That one line filled Fuji with confidence and pride.
Clapping his hands, he beamed. "Alright! Go on, Arima. I'll personally make your tea!"
Arima nodded, and in the next instant, his left eye transformed into the Mangekyo Sharingan. He vanished from Fuji's sight.
Fuji marveled, "Such mastery of dojutsu!"
Then he eagerly began rummaging through his chests, pulling out the prized tea he had bartered from the daimyo of the Land of Tea, along with a red clay stove and a rare purple clay teapot, preparing with utmost care.
Before dawn, amidst the army's tense readiness for battle, the supreme commander Fuji was leisurely brewing tea, a sight that would've stunned anyone unaware of what was happening.
The moment Arima disappeared from Fuji's side, he reappeared above the enemy camp.
Floating high in the air, he looked down at the lights below and murmured, "Let's give them a proper greeting. Otherwise, once we unify, they'll only bring more trouble."
Activating Tenseigan Chakra Mode, he raised his arms and commanded.
Immediately, the enemy fortifications shattered like paper, debris and soldiers alike pulled into the sky.
The chaos roused the entire camp.
Looking up, they saw a glowing figure in midair, clad in a radiant haori.
With precise control, Arima redirected the floating ninja toward a nearby lake while the debris rained down on the remaining forces.
Seeing the incoming avalanche of stone, Onoki rose before the crowd and shouted.
"On my mark, Earth Style: Mud Wall!"
All the Earth ninjas capable of the jutsu responded at once, slamming their hands into the ground. A massive stone wall rose to shield them.
But before they could celebrate, a massive stone spear pierced the wall effortlessly, bringing more debris crashing down.
Onoki unleashed his most powerful Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique.
Kazekage followed with his strongest Magnet Release: Iron Sand World Method.
Mizukage quickly wove hand seals for his A-rank Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique. A deluge surged upward, like a tsunami from the sky.
But none of them knew that Arima's Tenseigan could absorb chakra from afar.
Before their jutsu even struck the debris, all the chakra within was drawn out, their techniques vanishing into thin air.
The massive stones fell ever closer. The ninja below scrambled to respond with all kinds of ninjutsu, but it was useless.
Every defense crumbled beneath the debris, reinforced by repulsive force.
Even the Iron Sand Wall, the Kazekage's prized defense, shattered instantly.
As the stones neared, the sheer pressure of their descent was palpable.
Despair took hold. Tens of thousands of ninja, and even the Three Kage, were utterly powerless.
Once Arima judged that his display had made its mark, he reversed the repulsion into attraction.
The falling boulders slowed, stopping mere meters above the crowd.
Survivors collapsed to the ground, some sobbing in relief.
Even the Three Kage broke out in cold sweat, knees trembling.
All were elite among elites, but never had they felt such helplessness. Even during the airborne fortress incidents, they'd at least been able to resist.
Then, a calm voice echoed from above. "Third Kazekage, Third Mizukage, and Third Tsuchikage, please come up."
Before they could react, their bodies floated skyward toward the mysterious figure.
Though the ninja below were unwilling, they could only watch as their Kage were taken away.
Seeing them approach, Arima deactivated his chakra mode and casually flung Mizukage into Onoki.
The old Tsuchikage barely managed to catch him.
Only then did the three realize who the figure was, Arima, the missing Third Hokage. Relief swept over them.
Arima glanced at them. "So, why are the three of you together?"
They exchanged glances, quickly signaling to each other. Kazekage and Mizukage nodded toward Onoki.
Left with no choice, Onoki spoke, "We didn't approve of this invasion. The Elder Councils overruled us and ordered us to support the Uchiha coup."
Arima's interest was piqued. But thinking of the tea Fuji was brewing, he said, "Let's discuss that later. Come with me to the allied camp."
He turned and addressed the ninja army below, "I am Arima, Third Hokage of Konoha. Seeing that dawn is near, I've invited your Kage to enjoy some tea and watch the sunrise with us."
With that, Arima activated Kamui, his Mangekyo technique, warping the three Kage away with him.
The four vanished before everyone's eyes.
Now the army finally knew who the mysterious figure was. But even knowing the Kage had been taken to the enemy camp nearby, what could they do?
Against such overwhelming power, survival alone was a miracle, rescue was out of the question.
Everyone knew: Arima had ended the war between Konoha and Kumo single-handedly. Against a giant Buddha of divine power, numbers were meaningless, mere cannon fodder.
At that moment, Fuji finished brewing the tea, setting out two clean cups.
He murmured, "The tea's ready, just waiting for Arima to return."
The next instant, Arima appeared in the tent with the three Kage.
Fuji grinned broadly and rose to greet them.
"An honor to have the Three Kage grace my humble tent! The tea's ready, though I didn't prepare enough cups, allow me to fetch three clean ones!"
