Under Arima's leadership, the shinobi world finally welcomed long-lost peace and unification.
Meanwhile, on the moon, the Otsutsuki clan was engaged in a battle of life and death.
Descendants of Otsutsuki Hamura, the clan had splintered into two factions due to a massive divergence in interpreting his teachings.
One was the Main Family, which advocated coexistence with the shinobi world; the other, the Branch Family, believed the world created by the Sage of Six Paths was a failure and sought its destruction.
In the first year of the Shinobi Era, formerly the 26th year of the Konoha calendar, a man named Jigen descended upon the moon.
Overwhelming all opposition, he brazenly seized a Byakugan of extremely pure lineage.
The Main Family chose to avoid conflict, believing their top priority was guarding the sealed power.
They feared that a battle with this unknown powerhouse could cause a rift in space-time, revealing the shinobi world's location to the distant Otsutsuki High Clan.
If that happened and their gods arrived, all life on Earth and the moon would be annihilated.
The Branch Family seized this opportunity to accuse the Main Family of cowardice and declared their intent to annihilate the shinobi world.
This became the spark that ignited long-standing tensions between the two factions.
Soon after Isso's rampage on the moon, the Main Family launched a full-scale hunt for Branch Family members, intending to brand them with a "Caged Bird" curse mark similar to the Hyuga Clan's in the shinobi world.
In the second year of the Shinobi Era, all Branch Family members were captured and imprisoned near the ancestral shrine.
Months later, desperate to avoid enslavement, the Branch Family made a last-ditch effort. They sacrificed all their Byakugan, fusing them into a massive, purple Tenseigan within the shrine.
Using its power, they launched a decisive counterattack and succeeded in wiping out the Main Family.
Then, they offered the Main Family's Byakugan to the Tenseigan as tribute, transforming its color from purple to a brilliant golden-yellow.
Over the next two years, the surviving Branch Family members used all their strength to construct a grand temple somewhere in space, enshrining the now-golden Tenseigan within it.
Half a year later, the last few survivors of the Branch Family relocated to the temple.
Their leader, Otsutsuki Isso, began executing a long-planned campaign to wipe out the shinobi world.
Time passed. Six years had gone by since the "Konoha Peace Conference," and the shinobi world had undergone unprecedented change. It flourished like never before.
Konoha had expanded five times in just six years. It now rivaled any major city in size and prosperity, becoming the safest and most bustling place in the entire shinobi world.
The citizens no longer called it Konoha, it now bore a more elegant name: Kyoto.
The ninja profession had become the top career choice, with a shift in their role, from killing to protecting.
Arima had transformed the original Ninja Academy into a small academic city, dedicated to training shinobi of all types.
It was the first day of July, a time when new students were admitted, and Kyoto was livelier than ever.
Among the new students, five-year-old Uzumaki Kushina was without doubt the luckiest.
After the Uzumaki clan joined the Shinobi Alliance, most of its members left the Land of Whirlpools to settle in Konoha.
Arima even carved out a special area near the Senju compound for them.
For the past two years, Kushina had been living in Arima's home.
As the only granddaughter of Uzumaki Ashina, her seniority granted her the title of Arima's youngest disciple.
When Arima and Tsunade had gone to pick her up and bring her to Konoha, Kushina had clung to them ever since, becoming Arima's third little shadow, Shizune and Natsuki having already claimed the first two spots.
Now, Shizune was nine, Natsuka ten. Both had become standouts from the moment they enrolled and remained prominent figures at the academy.
On Kushina's first day, Arima personally escorted her to school. Once there, Shizune and Natsuki stayed close by her side, making sure she didn't get lost or bullied.
As per tradition, at least one Vice Councilor attended the entrance ceremony each year.
This year, because of Kushina's enrollment, Arima himself made an appearance, for the second time. The first had been when the academy was founded.
At exactly nine o'clock, cheers erupted across the venue when Councilor Arima entered the hall with the four Vice Councilors. Thunderous applause followed as they ascended the main stage.
Once seated, silence fell.
Looking at the sea of students before him, Arima raised his voice through the sound-amplifying tube.
"Today, the Ninja Academy welcomes new blood. Though you come from different lands and time zones, your journey as shinobi begins here!
I hope you remember your mission, honor peace, and protect the land beneath your feet! The future of the shinobi world shines brighter because of you!"
Everyone present understood clearly that the peace and prosperity they now enjoyed was made possible by the man on stage.
They erupted into respectful applause once his speech concluded.
Meanwhile, Tsunade stood with Jiraiya and Orochimaru, observing the ceremony from a corner of the venue.
Jiraiya beamed. "The Third really is my idol! I'm totally making him the protagonist of my next book!"
Orochimaru gave a wry smile. "The protagonist of an adult novel?"
Jiraiya retorted indignantly, "This sage doesn't write those vulgar books anymore! I'm working on a serious one, The Shinobi's Struggle, also known as The Tale of Perseverance! Sounds good, right?"
Tsunade arched a brow, then raised her voice.
"Funny, because not long ago, Biwako came to me with a stack of manuscripts titled Icha Icha Paradise, asking if I knew who the author was. I didn't recognize the handwriting, but the tone? Oh, very familiar!"
Jiraiya chuckled awkwardly. "Oh, that? Wasn't that… uh, that brat Kaito! He wrote it!"
Tsunade feigned confusion. "Really? Or are you just blaming him because he's not here? You know, Biwako said she'd break the author's third leg."
Jiraiya paled. "Why break his short leg?!"
At that, Tsunade suddenly burst out laughing, recalling something amusing that had happened at Hiruzen-sensei's house.
Jiraiya turned to Orochimaru, panicked. "Hey, Snake Bastard, has Biwako interrogated you about this yet?"
Orochimaru studied him with interest before replying slowly, "Jiraiya… brace yourself. You nearly started a war between two clans."
Once Tsunade finished laughing, she took a deep breath and explained the situation.
Apparently, Biwako's eldest son had stumbled upon the manuscript in Hiruzen's study and read it overnight.
The next day, he confessed to a beautiful Uchiha girl named Mikoto, granddaughter of Uchiha Ken and betrothed to Uchiha Fugaku.
The incident spread through the academy like wildfire and soon reached Fugaku. Since both boys were in the same year and evenly matched, they agreed to a duel. The loser would back off.
In the end, both were hospitalized with serious injuries, and the Sarutobi and Uchiha clans nearly came to blows, until Arima stepped in.
As the attending physician for both boys, Tsunade knew the full story.
Later, Biwako confronted Hiruzen, but he kept tight-lipped about the author's identity. Enraged, she made him sleep on the couch for three months.
Still unsatisfied, Biwako eventually turned to Tsunade.
When Tsunade casually flipped through the manuscript, she instantly recognized the writing style. But to protect her teammate, she made up an excuse to deflect suspicion.
Now, she looked at the sheepish Jiraiya, patted his shoulder, and teased, "Your writing's actually pretty good! When you publish it, save me a copy. I'd love to read it with Arima!"
Then she added, "Your psychological descriptions are vivid. As expected of a man who spends all his time in bathhouses!
Even I got a little flushed reading it. Jiraiya, take my advice: you'd make a great author. There's real potential in this line of work!"
Jiraiya slumped slightly. "Tsunade really is a pervert…"
Unluckily for him, Tsunade had sharp ears. She shot him a glare.
Trying to change the subject, Jiraiya turned to Orochimaru. "Hey, Snake Bastard, heard you're working on a cloning project?"
Orochimaru shook his head. "Not cloning people, cloning organs. Sensei wants to reduce death by illness and help injured ninja regain their strength."
Tsunade added, "War may come again. Better to prepare early."
Orochimaru looked up at the clear sky. After a pause, he murmured, "Sensei said powerful beings from beyond might one day invade our world. No one knows when."
Jiraiya sighed. "Exactly. Peaceful days are the best. The Great Toad Sage once woke up and told me even he couldn't see the future of the shinobi world anymore.
That hasn't happened in thousands of years. Maybe it means a crisis is coming."
Tsunade gazed at Arima on the stage, her tone resolute. "Whatever crisis it is, we'll get through it."
Orochimaru nodded calmly. "There may be other forms of life in this vast universe. Perhaps they're watching us already. Life is beautiful, and awe-inspiring."
Tsunade and Jiraiya couldn't quite relate to Orochimaru's sentiment, but the conversation ended there.
After the brief opening ceremony came the most anticipated part: class placements.
Those with kekkei genkai skipped the entrance exam and went straight into Special Class A. High-performing students from the test also qualified.
The rest went into regular classes, with a second placement exam in their third year to determine their future paths.
The top ten scorers received special prizes from the Councilor and the four Vice Councilors.
As a member of the Uzumaki clan, Kushina was already bound for Class A. But she was still excited about the special prize. Arima had told her it would be worth her full effort.
Having trained in ninjutsu and taijutsu under Arima since childhood, Kushina's strength far surpassed that of her peers, earning the reward would be no challenge at all.
Just as the new students were eagerly preparing for the exam, disaster struck.
A blinding beam of light shot down from the sky, heading straight for the assembly field.
Arima had already noticed it.
This method of attack was all too familiar, Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion, a move from Tenseigan Mode.
But the power behind this beam was several times greater than what he himself could produce.
Arima thought to himself, It's finally begun.
He and the four Kage moved instantly, leaping into action to intercept the golden light.
Arima pressed his hands together, and a Sage mask appeared on his face.
With his Mangekyo Sharingan in his left eye, he activated Kamui, teleporting himself and the other four to a point high above the descending beam.
He formed the Ram seal. A massive wooden golem emerged from thin air, then Arima wrapped it in a dense chakra armor using his Susanoo. Chakra wings unfolded from the golem's back.
Arima stood within the crystal space on Susanoo's forehead. The other four Kage stood side by side atop the golem's head.
Each unleashed their strongest jutsu.
Yet even the combined might of:
Onoki's Dust Release: Detachment of the Primitive World Technique.
A's Hell Stab – Black Lightning – Single Finger Thrust.
Kazekage's Magnet Release: Iron Sand World Method.
Mizukage Water Release: Severing Wave
…only slowed the golden sword's descent. They couldn't stop it.
But that was all Arima needed.
He used his Susanoo to create a massive chakra bow and imbued his Kamui into several chakra arrows.
In a single breath, he loosed them in rapid succession at the exact points struck by the other Kage.
Instantly, the golden beam split down the middle, flickering rapidly before vanishing into nothingness.
