Hale's escape route had been clean.
The search lines had parted, wardens had been stationed, and doors had opened long enough for them to pass through. However, while they'd gone unattacked, they hadn't received anything but the bare minimum of aid. Essentially, the ring had decided it wouldn't waste its energy on attacking Lord Orasith's mark.
Sera didn't like it.
As Lucian supported her and she used her own stubbornness to stay up right, she glanced around at the attendants and the smooth transfers. "Feels like I'm being escorted into a more attractive trap."
"It's a trap, but with ventilation holes. The best deal you can get from rank ground." Istra replied.
Rhel kept her voice low so Hale and her attendant would have to strain to hear her. "Orasith's people will do exactly what they said they would and nothing more. If Veynar causes a fight where it would cost Orasith too much politically then the cover will be less."
Toren huffed. "So we're safe until it costs us."
