The temporary council didn't last for long.
Lucian had only just entered the open area between the three seats when the first shockwave hit. The lights on the barrier in the outer walls flickered and died in a bright blaze. A sharp series of blats echoed from outside.
"That's not ring protocol." Hale said, turning.
Rhel was already dashing towards Lucian and Sera. "Veynar!"
One of the three council members rose to protest but they never even got to speak. The opposite doors of the chamber burst open as a wave of pressure knocked two of the attendants off their feet. Dust exploded into the clean area.
It wasn't a hunting party.
Six members of a bound rank unit marched into the room, their plating dark and forged by the seats. Each had Veynar's sigil stamped on their chests. They didn't seem to be looking for negotiations. They weren't acknowledging the protection of Orasith or even the temporary language the council were using. Their eyes were fixed solely on Lucian.
