Avery could not believe what she was hearing. Her and Adrian's pictures? What pictures? Her mind stumbled over the thought, unable to piece together what Naya was trying to say.
Why was Naya so worked up, her voice cracking through the phone as though the world was about to end? Avery's heart began to race, a hollow weight pressing into her chest.
"Naya, calm down first!" Avery said, her own voice slightly raised, trying to steady both herself and the frantic young woman on the other end. She needed Naya to take a breath, to gather herself, otherwise Avery would never get to the bottom of this chaos.
Naya inhaled sharply, and after a few moments, she finally began spilling everything in a rush. "Ma'am, there are pictures of you and Adrian, in an office hugging each other. The person who took these pictures… they made it look like you and he are having an affair!" Her words tumbled out so quickly they almost blurred together, like an unstoppable current sweeping over Avery's ears.
