Avery realized only after Silas's urgent voice pierced through the phone that she was, in fact, crying. Hot tears slid down her cheeks, and for a moment, she didn't even know why.
The rumors, the pictures, the weight of being misunderstood, it should've been nothing new to her. She had dealt with worse. So why now? Why did something so small leave her so unbearably fragile?
Her answer came with a sharp cramp in her abdomen that made her eyes widen in shock. She froze, pressing her hand against her lower belly.
"I… got my periods?!" The words slipped out of her mouth, half certain, half confused, completely forgetting that Silas was still on the other end of the line, listening to every word.
