"Avery, do you want to go to college today or not? I'm getting late for work!" Elias's impatient voice rang out from the hallway, going through the warm cocoon of blankets Avery had wrapped around her, making her look like a burrito.
She groaned and buried her face deeper into her quilt, hugging it tighter as if it could shield her from the cruel brightness of morning.
'Why is sleep in the morning so good?!' she wondered bitterly, her thoughts muffled by the soft fabric. It was as if the bed got a thousand times more comfortable the very moment she was supposed to leave it.
But she knew if she didn't get up now, her brother, Elias would barge in, pull the covers away, and lecture her about time management for the hundredth time. That thought alone was enough to make her sigh in defeat and sit up with messy hair and sleepy eyes.
"I'll be downstairs in ten minutes, Ely!" she yelled back hoarsely, stretching like a lazy cat as sunlight spilled through the half-drawn curtains.
