"Mr. Blackwood, sit down!"
The clipped, pointed voice of their professor cut through the air, bring them all back with a jolt. The whole class had been quiet for ages, but Avery and Silas had been so caught up in their heated argument that they hadn't even realized the teacher was coming.
Avery froze with a mid-glare, her back rigid as the collective weight of the class's attention bore down upon her. Silas, however, seemed entirely unmoved. He glanced idly to the front, his face serene, as if getting caught was not even an inconvenience.
He shot Avery one final glance, a long, infuriatingly amused one that made her want to slap that smug smile right off his face, before he finally turned and headed for his desk.
Of course, it just so happened to be the one behind hers.
She flopped into her seat with a tiny thud, throwing him one last side-eye as he walked away, and Daniala got closer and hissed, "You two are going to get detention someday."
