"I cannot accept this…" spoke Clark, his eyes fixed on Wonder Woman, voice filled with restrained fury."Diana… this is not the way forward."
"We have discussed it long enough," Diana replied firmly. "The votes are in. Fifty-four percent agree with me."
Her words hung like a guillotine. Every member, from the core League to the Titans and Justice League Dark, had cast their voices into history. Out of one hundred and twenty-nine heroes, seventy agreed with Diana: the Killing Rule should be implemented. Fifty stood against it. Nine abstained, unwilling to bear the burden of choice.
The divide was undeniable.
"I cannot work with a League of murderers," Bruce spoke next. His voice was low but final, a blade cutting through the silence. "I am leaving the League."
He turned without hesitation, his cape sweeping behind him. His family followed at once—Tim Drake, Nightwing, Batgirl—every Bat left with him, not a word spoken. Their silence screamed louder than any declaration.
"The League… is breaking apart," Clark whispered, his fists trembling. His voice hardened. "All because of him."
He could not bring himself to say Jason's name.
"I cannot allow this… for the League to become…"
"Kal-El," Diana interrupted, steel in her tone. "This was not my decision alone. This was our decision. We are a League, not a dictatorship. We debate, we vote, we choose together. And together, we have chosen. In time, you will understand that this path… is the right one."
"You will bring the League to ruin!" Superman roared.
"I can't believe this!" Flash shouted, voice cracking. "Are you all so desperate to kill villains that you've lost your damn minds?"
Oliver Queen's voice cut through like an arrow. "That's easy for you to say, Barry, isn't it? You've got Reverse Flash. A monster who has warped time, killed countless people across timelines, destroyed lives before they were even born. And how many chances have you given him? How many times has he come back? How many graves would be empty if we had ended him the first time?"
The room shifted. Oliver turned his fury toward Hal.
"And you, Hal. Don't act like this is unthinkable. Out there, in space, as a Green Lantern? Execution is normal. If a villain is too far gone, too dangerous, the Corps doesn't hesitate. Guy voted with us for a reason, because he knows the truth. Out there, killing saves entire sectors. But here on Earth? Suddenly it's off the table?"
Hal clenched his fists, but said nothing.
"And you, Clark…" Oliver's voice shook with rage. "You keep saying it over and over—you don't accept this. So fucking what?! Lex Luthor brought an evil version of you from another Earth, an Ultraman who butchered over seven thousand people in Metropolis. SEVEN. THOUSAND. And because we didn't have proof it was our Luthor, we let him walk free! Are you kidding me? Everyone knew. EVERYONE. Yet we settled for banishing Ultraman back to his world to kill again. We failed those people. You failed them!"
Superman's face hardened, but his voice was calm. "My powers are not for killing."
"YES, THEY ARE!" Oliver's roar shook the chamber. "If anyone had the judgment to decide who deserves to live or die, it's you! But you hide in this bubble, terrified of losing your image. You cling to being a symbol, a saint, a farm boy wrapped in hope. You'll never be human, Clark, and you don't need to be. We don't want you to be! We want you to be who you are—a god who can make the hard choices we can't! But instead, you waste that gift, hiding behind ideals while people die!"
He turned to the room, to those wavering, to those who had voted no.
"We are the shield between the people and villains. But we are also the spear. Yet we refuse to strike. And so the cycle continues—innocents die, cities burn, villains escape to kill again. The line you're so afraid to cross is there for a reason—but some villains can't be saved. We can be each other's check, our balance. If one of us crosses the line unjustly, then they face the same judgment. Together, we can make it work."
Some looked inspired. Some looked disgusted. But all were shaken.
"I won't pretend anymore," Oliver spat. "You say we'll ruin the League? Fine. Fuck the League. I'm joining the kid. Jason is the only one with the guts to do what's right."
He stepped forward, shoulders squared.
"And all of us who voted yes… we're leaving too. We can't work with you anymore. This split was bound to happen—it was inevitable. So this is it. It's been an honor working with you, but the League we built is dead. We'll help people our way. You help them yours."
The chamber filled with silence. Heavy. Final.
And so it ended.
The day history would mark forever. The day the Justice League split.
The end of the Peaceful Era.
The beginning of the War on Villains.
....
"Well? What do you think? Can we handle America now?" Diana asked, her tone steady, eyes locked on Jason across the dinner table.
Jason leaned back in his chair, a half-amused smirk tugging at his lips. "Uhh… I don't know. I was expecting you to bring, what, maybe ten members tops? Now I've got the entire damn League?" His eyebrow arched in disbelief.
"Not all of them," Diana corrected smoothly, swirling the deep red wine in her glass before taking a slow sip. "Rather… half. Enough to make the world take notice." She let the words linger, savoring both the wine and the weight of her statement.
Jason shook his head, almost chuckling at the absurdity.
"I've already begun drafting plans," Diana continued, her voice shifting from casual to commander. "A new central base of operations, a chain of command to ensure order, and a NEW NAME...… and finally a preliminary list of priority targets. Villains who need to be kept under watch. Some…" she paused, her gaze sharpening, "may need more than that. But I'll leave those decisions to you."
Jason leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. His eyes narrowed, but his voice was calm. "No. Speak your mind freely, Diana. I might make the final call, but I don't plan on running this show alone. You and the others—you've been at this longer than me, far longer. I trust your judgment." His smirk returned, faint but deliberate. "Just don't get too soft. I told you before—I'm not out to kill every villain. Just the ones who've gone too far. The ones who can't ever come back."
For a moment, silence hung between them, heavy with unspoken understanding.
Diana studied him, then let the corner of her lips curve upward. A small, rare smile. "Good. Then let's discuss this further."
....
Meanwhile, on a dark and desolate planet, where the skies churned with black storms and rivers of molten rock carved scars into the land, a man sat upon a throne of jagged obsidian. Shadows bent unnaturally around him, as though even light feared to linger too close.
One of his servants crawled forward on all fours, bowing low before daring to speak.
"My master… troubling—no… interesting news has reached us from the planet Earth. The League… the so-called defenders of their world… are in shambles."
