Jason stood tall at the podium, the weight of every gaze upon him. The ballroom shimmered with chandeliers and golden light, filled with heroes who once wore the League's emblem now gathered under his banner. The Anderson estate had spared no expense: a party of history, a celebration to announce what the world had whispered in shock for days—seventy members of the Justice League had defected, and tonight they stood united with the Cursed Ones.
Jason's voice cut through the air, calm but heavy with authority.
"Hello everyone… it is an honor to stand before you tonight. Heroes of the League. Some of you have more years of experience than I've even lived. That makes your presence here… your choice to not only accept my way but to join me… all the more humbling. Together, we are not chasing vengeance. We are not zealots. We are chasing a dream: to cleanse the world of evil once and for all."
A ripple of applause threatened to break, but Jason raised a hand.
"I want to be clear. This is no cult, no blind following. Here, we operate with analysis, not impulse. Every villain we face is weighed. Their actions examined. Their past considered. Some can be saved. Others cannot. We are not executioners for sport—we are judges when mercy has already failed. You all know this, but it must be said aloud.
Tonight, however, I want you to understand something more important: we are not simply the Cursed Ones and the League joining hands for convenience. No… from this day forward, we are something new. We are not just humanity's shield against evil… we are its spear."
His voice rose, commanding the room.
"The Longinus. The spear that pierces false gods, tyrants, monsters. That is what we are. That is what we must be. And so, from this day forth, our name will be remembered in history. We are—The Pantheon."
The declaration thundered through the hall. Applause erupted, some pounding the tables, others raising glasses in celebration. Jason let the wave crest before speaking again.
"The name has two meanings. The first—you already understand. To the villains of this world, we are gods. We will be judge, jury, and executioner when evil dares to threaten humanity. But the second meaning is more important. Pantheon means not one, but many. We are a group. We are the shoulder at each other's side, the eye watching for weakness, the hand ready to pull back a comrade if they ever stray too far. Alone, we are mortals. Together… together we are divine."
When the applause reached its peak, Jason stepped down from the podium, taking a glass of wine from a waiter with his usual composed ease. He slipped into the crowd, his presence magnetic, until he reached Raven.
"So," he asked with a faint smile, "feel at home?"
Raven looked around, the warmth of unfamiliar acceptance on her usually guarded face. "Yeah… it's been… nice. Everyone's been surprisingly generous in welcoming me."
"Good," Jason replied, his voice lowering. "I want you to remember—you're not in danger here. I know I said I'd kill you if you lost control, but that was just to pacify John. Truth is… I trust you. You'll get stronger, Raven. Strong enough to stand against even your father one day."
Before she could respond, a sharp, practiced voice cut in behind him.
"Man of the hour. Leader of The Pantheon. Jason Anderson."
Jason turned, glass in hand, to face the newcomer. He smiled lightly. "Ah. Lois Lane. The Daily Planet's finest reporter. Welcome to my family's little celebration. I trust you're enjoying yourself?"
Lois arched an eyebrow, her words biting. "Well, as much as anyone can enjoy a party filled with capes who now believe they're gods."
Jason chuckled softly, sipping his wine. "Mm. I see. So my words didn't land for you. You doubt us. Doubt our ways. You think we've seized too much power, that in time Superman's warnings will prove true, and we'll become the very monsters we claim to fight."
Lois folded her arms. "I don't recall saying anything of the sort, Mr. Anderson."
"You don't have to, Lois." His smile sharpened. "It's written all over you. It's in your nature… and his nature as well." He snapped his fingers casually. The faint red light on her recorder blinked once, then went dead. "Off the record, then."
Her eyes narrowed.
"You failed to ever pin anything on Luthor," Jason continued, stepping closer, his voice like velvet steel. "And you'll fail with me. Because like him, I operate above your system—the so-called fairness you cling to. But unlike him, I won't waste my power lashing out at innocents or obsessing over an alien superior. No. My focus is singular. Evil. And only evil."
Lois clenched her jaw, holding his gaze.
Jason leaned in, his tone almost conversational. "You can despise me, Lois. You can hate my methods. But twenty years from now, when your children walk the streets without fear, when the world is cleaner and safer… you'll remember who brought that peace. You'll remember whose way made it possible."
Without waiting for a reply, Jason set down his glass, offered her a polite nod, and turned his back on her. His eyes locked on Diana across the room, radiant in her armor even amid the finery. Their discussion, he knew, mattered more than a reporter's doubts.
....
Jason swirled the wine in his glass before taking a measured sip. His eyes stayed fixed on Diana."I've reviewed your list," he said evenly. "As you mentioned, some of them… perhaps they can still be saved. Arrested, given a chance to change. But too many others are just as unhinged as the monsters I've already put down."
Diana's lips curved into a wary smile. "Then let me take some of the newer members on these hunts. The ones too dangerous to be left alive. It will serve two purposes—first, to show them just how far they may be forced to go… and second, to give them real experience in killing."
Jason studied her for a moment, then nodded. "That's fine. But what about you, Diana? Are you truly at peace with killing?"
Her smirk was sharp, almost cruel. "Jason… I was a killer nearly a hundred years before you were born. Though I've refrained from drenching my blade in blood for some time, don't think its edge has dulled."
Jason chuckled, lifting his free hand in mock surrender. "Alright, alright—I get it. A ruthless Amazon warrior through and through. Should've never doubted you." He set the glass down and slid the list across the table."Anyway… here it is. Good luck, Diana. Some of these names—well, you'll understand when you meet them."
