The battlefield, moments ago a chaotic but manageable clash, dissolved into pandemonium the instant Damien lost control.

The army of Ikelos had already been buckling beneath the relentless assault—Damien's shadows tearing through their lines, Ais carving down swathes of enemies with calm precision, and Riveria's spells striking with surgical lethality.

The Ikelos adventurers fought with numbers, not quality—mostly Level 1s and 2s, with a handful of weak 3s and almost no true elites. Their only advantage had been the sheer press of bodies.

Damien's shadows annihilated that. With their fronts shredded and their backs unprotected, Ais and Riveria moved like spirits of death, swift and unstoppable.

And then Dix fell.

He collapsed in a pool of his own blood, chest carved open, the cursed spear shattered. His defeat sent a shockwave of fear through his troops.

Victory was close—

—until Damien snapped.

The moment Phobetor Daedalus twisted his mind, the entire battle shifted.

Damien turned with a howl, eyes glowing red, saliva foaming at his lips. Before the nearest adventurers could scream, he was on them.

Heads flew.Limbs tore free.Blood sprayed in desperate arcs as Damien ripped through them like a beast loosed from hell.

His shadows immediately froze—then sank silently into the ground, retreating back into his black silhouette. In this state, Damien couldn't control them. He was alone—and uncontrollable.

Ais moved in to intercept him—

—and his daggers clashed against her blade with a screech.

"DAMlEN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Ais shouted, her voice breaking.

"DIE! DIE! DIE! ALL OF YOU DIE!" Damien roared, barely human.

Ais invoked Ariel instantly; wind roared around her, whipping her hair and accelerating her movements. She blocked strike after strike, sparks flying as knife met sword.

But she couldn't counter.Couldn't hurt him.Every attack she made could kill him—and she refused.

So she went for his weapons.

Her speed tripled. She struck his wrist—clang—and sent one dagger flying, then twisted under his arm and kicked the second away.

She exhaled—

Only for Damien to lunge barehanded, claws erupting from his fingertips.

For a split second, she felt cold steel at her throat.

Ais froze.

Then—

"Arcs Ray."

A beam of light slammed into Damien's face. The explosion of magic hurled him backward, smoke curling from his skin. He collapsed instantly, unconscious.

Ais spun around, fury in her eyes.

"YOU HURT HIM!"

Riveria, already panting from spellcasting and battle, snapped back:

"I had no choice! Carry him—we must retreat! We've cut their numbers, but we cannot win now! Move!"

Ais clenched her jaw but nodded, scooping Damien into her arms. She held him like something fragile, terrified of his injuries, terrified of what she'd almost done—and what he had almost done to her.

Behind them, the Ikelos troops began regrouping.

Riveria did not let them.

Her voice rose in an incantation that shook the cavern walls:

"Respond to the contract, flame of earth.Follow my order and burn the violence—Flare Burn!"

A massive wall of fire erupted, roaring across the tunnel like a living beast, halting the Ikelos advance and swallowing the front line in heat that melted the stone beneath it.

Riveria's boots flared with wind magic as she sprinted after Ais.

The trio—one unconscious, two battered—escaped into the deeper tunnels, leaving behind a burning battlefield, a panicked army, and the injured Dix.

They managed to get away.

But the consequences of Damien's rampage would follow them.

...

Damien's consciousness drifted in and out of a nightmare that felt too real to be fantasy.

A hellish wasteland stretched endlessly under a sky drowned in shadows. The sun hung above him—black, pulsing like a dying heart—bleeding darkness instead of light. The ground was cracked and steaming, corpses of beasts and twisted monsters piled around him like a mountain of carnage.

His own body was shredded.Blood poured from his torso, arms, face—cuts deep enough to expose bone flashing white between torn muscle. His left dagger had snapped somewhere in the chaos; the right one he was using to parry the claws of a snarling nightmare. He twisted, slashed upward, and severed its head in a violent arc.

Another charged.

He didn't think. He didn't understand. All he felt was the crushing urge to kill.

"Why… why am I here…?"His voice came out a guttural growl.

Another beast lunged. Damien tore through it with his armor's claws—long, black, and dripping malice. His breath was ragged, every heartbeat pounding like war drums.

"DIE! DIE! DIE! ALL OF YOU DIE!!"

The more he tore, the more his hunger grew. The more he fought, the more the world bent into madness.

His mind buzzed like a hive of angry bees.

Blood!Kill them all!Tear them apart!Feed—

A flash of light.

Magic.

It slammed into his face like a meteor, obliterating the landscape around him in white light.

Then—

Darkness.

Silence....

Damien's eyes opened slowly.

He blinked.

Something soft.Something warm.

And a pair of… very noticeable breasts hovered directly over him.

"Uh…?" he muttered in confusion.

He looked left.Looked right.Realized he was lying on someone's lap.

Then Ais's gentle voice drifted down with that innocent, concerned tone only she could manage:

"Are you all right?"

His brain stalled.

"…Yeah," he mumbled, sitting up quickly as his face flushed. He rubbed his head, groaning. "I… don't remember everything. I was fighting that guy—Dix—and then… there were war beasts. Blood everywhere. I had to kill them all."

Before either of them spoke, Riveria, standing beside a makeshift magical barrier, explained:

"You were struck by a curse. Phobetor Daedalus. A nightmare-type enchantment. It thrusts the target into a hallucinated frenzy… forcing them to attack everything they perceive as hostile."

Damien winced. So it was a nightmare.

Riveria sighed, clearly exhausted but trying to maintain her composure.

"I'm sorry. But you were too dangerous, and too fast, to treat while awake. I had to knock you unconscious to heal it. A moving target is… difficult to hit safely."

Damien nodded slowly. He didn't blame her.

Riveria continued, voice urgent again:

"We escaped the Ikelos camp while you were unconscious. We stopped here only long enough to heal you and recover mana. But we must move soon—the survivors will regroup and pursue."

Damien stood, though he swayed slightly, dizziness clinging to him like fog.

"Yeah… yeah, I'm good. Let's move."

But Riveria wasn't finished.

Her eyes narrowed—not hostile, but demanding.

"Before that… tell me what those creatures were."She folded her arms. "The shadowy monsters. The knight. They answered your commands."

Damien clicked his tongue.

"Right… that."

Ais watched silently, eyes wide, still shaken by what happened but trusting him implicitly.

Damien rubbed the back of his neck.

"It's… a skill. A kind of necromancy. I can… revive monsters. Make them fight for me. It's complicated. I wanted to keep it a secret because—well—monsters. People would take it the wrong way."

Riveria exhaled sharply.

"An understatement. Necromancy of this level is unheard of." Her voice softened. "Good decision keeping it hidden."

She turned, preparing her staff to move—

Then stopped.

Without looking back, she added:

"And… I want to study it."

Damien blinked.

He grinned.

"Sure thing. When we aren't being hunted, you can have front-row seats."

"Good." Riveria's cheeks reddened slightly. "Now—run."
