Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: Memories of flames

A suffocating blanket of air lingered in the air. Crackling fire scorched everything within the house.

Shin finally opened his eyes. Shin weeded in shallow breaths. Each breath was a battle, the air thick and unyielding, scraping down his throat like smoke.

He stumbled onto his feet. Vision hazy. Blurred. His eyes flung across the room. Fire.

*Where am I

He dragged himself through the flaming room. He made it onto the hallway and paused.

The blood drained from his face, leaving pale as chalk. The hallway was eerily familiar. Too familiar.

Heat pounding. He shot out the room through the hallway.

"The kid's the one who did this. Make him pay officers"

Shin froze. His heart slammed once then froze, forgetting to beat.

Panic filled his heart. His eyes were blank. His face pale. He grabbed onto the burning wood of the staircase.

His metal arm glowed bright red, scorching the flash of his shoulder. Shin gritted his teeth and slowly descended.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs, his mechanical heart sank into his stomach.

"What am I doing here. Why did he bring me here. Why," tears streamed down his face.

"Mom please wake up. Please don't leave me"

The wails of a child caught his attention. He walked out the house. A crowd had gathered infront of it.

Police were pushing the crowd back, shielding something. Shin slowly trudged on.

He made his way infront of the crowd.

"Sir I'm going to need you to step back"

A police officer pushed Shin back. Shin didn't flinch, didn't answer. His eyes were fixated on the boy infront of him.

Fixated on his angelic white hair. The voices of the crowd drowned out and turned into muffled background noise.

Shin gritted his teeth. Fist clenched. Lips quiver, tears flowing from his eyes.

The boy looked up at Shin. His bloodshot eyes locking with Shin's.

*No . No . NO. NO. NO .NO. NO. NO*

The sniffled as he hugged something. Shin glanced at it. It was a burnt corpse.

"Sir I told you to step back" the officer pushed Shin backed.

Shin fell to the floor. The crowd moved back, putting the spotlight on him. Shin slowly got up.

All eyes were on him. His darted around at everyone present. Silence befell the area, apart from the occasional crackling of fire.

Everyone's gaze weighed on him. He felt trapped inside his own body, helpless and small, as air slipped further and further out of reach.

A woman from the crowd stepped forward. Her hand gently rose towards him. A finger pointed at him.

"Murderer" the woman accused.

Shin, still in shocked stared intently at the woman. His vision become blurry. The oxygen retreating from his lungs.

He turned paler. Paler than a ghost. In fact he looked as though he had seen one himself.

Gossip flew through the crowd. Low grumbling echoed through the crowd. Slowly the crowd began to chant.

"Murderer murderer murderer murderer murderer murderer MURDERER MURDERER MURDERER MURDERER!!!"

Shin clutched his chest. His voice trapped unable to escape. Unable to defend himself.

A man walked up to the front. His gazed pierced through Shin.

"Murderer" the man accused. Rolling up his sleeves.
