Chapter 198 - A Game

Exhaustion had finally dragged Sofia and Beatrice into a restless sleep on the cold floor. But the sharp creak of metal jolted them awake—the door unlocking, hinges groaning.

Natalia stepped inside first, John shadowing her like a silent predator. The dim light from the corridor spilled across her face, highlighting the cruel curve of her smile.

"Oh, you're both awake," Natalia sang out mockingly, her heels clicking against the floor as if she were strolling through a ballroom instead of a prison. "You must be hungry. But don't worry—no need to feed you. After all, you won't be needing strength where you're going. It's such a pity... all that power your father tried to protect, Sofia, all the empire he clung to—it couldn't save you."

Her words dripped venom, each syllable sharpened to cut.

Sofia's heart pounded, but instead of shrinking back, she sat straighter, meeting Natalia's glare head-on. Her voice came out steady, edged with fire.
