Chapter 10 - rumors

Camila pov

The morning air was crisp, but my nerves were louder than the breeze rustling through the trees. I stood by the edge of the driveway, arms crossed my mom didn't come home last night she had let me know she was going to spend the night at her office

Then I saw his car.

Anthony.

He pulled up like he belonged there, windows down, one hand on the wheel, and that familiar calm expression on his face. No pressure, no pretense—just him.

"Morning," he said, voice a soft rumble. "I thought I'd offer you a ride, unless you're planning to walk two miles in those shoes."

My shoes were nothing strange they were a black strop shoe with a inch and a half heal

He was just trying to be cheeky

I smiled as I slid into the passenger seat.

"Thanks. Umm i hesitated before I spoke I wasn't sure if you meant what you said about driving me if I ever wanted to you know goo

"I always mean it," he said simply. Then, after a beat, "I was thinking… after school. If you're up for it, I want to take you somewhere."

Also he added incase you get lost and need a save call mehe said as he picked my phone and typed his number in with a grin the size of London

He saved him self as personal driver with a heart ❤️.

I glanced at him, heart doing that thing again—the skip, the flutter.

"Where?"

He just smiled, looking ahead.

"You'll see."

The school lot was buzzing louder than usual. People glanced at me as I walked in, some with side-eyes, others with barely-hidden smirks. The news had spread faster than wildfire—Camila and Deron were over. And judging by the glint in some of their eyes, the rumors were already more dramatic than reality.

I found Julia and Antwan near the lockers.

"Girl," Julia said, pulling me into a hug, "if you were looking for peace, this is not the school for it today."

"Don't care," I said, trying not to sound too relieved. "I made the right choice."

"Damn right," Antwan said. "You look lighter. Like you finally took off a fifty-pound backpack full of lies."

I laughed—part from the truth of it, part because only Antwan could put it that way.

A couple of guys I recognized from bio class gave me a nod as they passed.

"About time," one of them muttered with a grin.

Another group walked by—less supportive, more awkward. One of them raised his brows but said nothing.

"Ignore them," Julia said under her breath. "Some people just like toxicity until it spills on them."

First period flew by. I actually finished my assignment early. That never happens. Maybe freedom helps focus.

By lunch, I felt steadier.

I sat down with Julia and Antwan at our usual table—and Tyler. He'd already claimed a seat and was halfway through a sandwich like he owned the place.

"Finally," he said, not looking up. "I've been waiting for you to come to your senses."

"Hi to you too," I smirked.

"No offense," he added, "but Deron was a walking red flag. Glad you're done. Proud of you, kid."

I rolled my eyes at the "kid," but his smile was warm and solid. Tyler had been around since forever. He'd taught me how to ride a bike, helped me bury my first pet goldfish, and punched a guy in middle school who called me weird.

He wasn't interested in me like that, but he was family. The kind you choose.

We spent the rest of lunch laughing about old times and fake rumors flying around campus. Someone apparently claimed I dumped Deron for a college guy with a motorcycle. Not quite.some said I had cheated. Some said deron had slept with lana so I left .

But I didn't bother correcting them.

Let them talk.

I had someone waiting to show me something after school.

And for once, I was more curious than scared of what might happen or what might not
