Chapter 1 - WITHIN THE DEPTHS

I slowly came to in the icy waters, I had no recollection of where I was, who I was or how I got there. It was strange, I should've been panicking, I should've been scared, cold atleast but I felt warm and safe instead. The waters were pitch black, I couldn't see anything, not even my hands as I held them in front of me. I slowly realised that I could breath, no I wasn't breathing, I didn't need to. I didn't know how or what was happening, it was unlike anything I had ever experienced.

I sat in the icy depths for what felt like hours with nothing but the dark void keeping me company. After I while a faint green light appeared, it was small at first but slowly got brighter and seemed to be getting slightly closer. I thought I was finally started to lose my mind, that it was playing cruel tricks on me. I felt so happy to see something apart from the black void despite it potentially being a hallucination. The light stopped moving after a short while, it was still so far away still but despite this I tried to swim closer in hopes that it was rescue. I swam for an eternity without getting any closer to the light, it felt as if I couldn't move.

I grew too tired to move after swimming for so long and eventually drifted into sleep, I wasn't sure if I'd wake up in my bed, back in that hell or if I'd wake up at all. It was a haunting feeling but I had no other option but to succumb to the sleep. I don't know how long I was sleeping for but once I awoke the green light was much closer.

It was different this time though, the green light that was eerily still before seemed to be swaying back and forth this time. The swaying continued for some time before slowing then ceasing the motion completely, My curiosity was replaced with fear as I noticed another light on the edge of my vision, I snapped my head to gaze upon an array of dim dark blue lights.

The lights layed in three rows of perfectly spaced circles, the two side rows had slightly smaller circles while the middle row had larger circles . The pattern seemed to bend and become slightly distorted as it unmistakably moved towards the green light.

I thought the hallucinations were getting worse, where did these lights come from, what were they, what the hell was going on, I was so confused and the fear factor finally started to seep in. The green light started to move towards the blue lights slightly, the two different light sources were moving towards me, the green slowly while the blue was speeding along creating distorting patterns.

As the green light got closer I could see something attached to it almost like a stem. The stem was dimly illuminated blending with the black ocean. More and more of the stem was being illuminated and I started to question what it really was, the passed over me and I realised what it truely was.

The light that had been hanging within the depths with me was a lure and the blue lights was prey, I wish I never came to that realisation, it was too much for me. How could something so large even exist, it shouldn't be possible.

I could feel the water start to move around me as the blue light got closer. The lure was directly between me and the blue now, the fear I felt in that moment and the following was immeasurable. I could see the creature emitting the blue light, it was like a skyscraper towering over me, its eel like body cut through the ocean like a hot knife through butter. Watching it's jaw unhinge revealing rows of gigantic razor sharp teeth as it lunged towards the lured terrified me like nothing else could ever have compared to.

In an instant the lure retracted faster than anything I'd ever seen before plunging me into the dark once again. The bioluminescence from the eel's body slowly drifted past me, I wasn't sure what happed as it all happened so quickly but I was sure whatever had the lure executed the eel.

The water was an eerie still once again, the bioluminescence was blurred from the bloodied waters. It soon dawned on me that the luring creature had essentially swallowed me along with the eel.

In the end the light I was though rescue was my demise, the lure that was ised to hunt prey the size of skyscrapers.
