Chapter 398 - Chapter 398 : The Goddess of Death and Her Dog King Thanos

This was a realm shrouded in despair and finality. Every breath of air carried the cold stench of death. The dim light barely penetrated the heavy haze, faintly illuminating the throne at the far end—constructed entirely from pale skulls. Their twisted forms told a story of eternal decay and utter solitude.

Atop that throne sat a woman in a black robe, her stern face unmoving. Her eyes, like bottomless voids, burned with fury and dread.

She was Death—the Goddess of Death, one of the Five Marvel Gods and the very embodiment of mortality. Yet in this moment, her usual calm and poise were shattered by a sudden, devastating discovery.

"Damn it! Damn it! How can that bastard's scent still exist? That accursed man is supposed to be dead!"

"I'll tear him limb from limb! I'll make him beg for death and deny it to him!"

Her voice reverberated through the empty chamber, echoing with uncontained rage and disbelief. Each of her furious roars caused the space itself to quake, as though the void feared her wrath.

And buried in her rage—was fear.

As the Goddess of Death unleashed her fury, the cosmic region near her domain began to rot under an invisible pressure. Verdant forests withered in an instant, crystal-clear streams evaporated into dust, and entire ecosystems collapsed in moments—swallowed by the creeping decay of death itself.

Moments ago, she had sensed a trace of a presence.

A presence that should have long ceased to exist.

The presence of Alex Ray.

To the Goddess of Death, that name meant two things: pure hatred—and fear. It was Alex Ray who had nearly killed her. It was he who had made her experience true terror for the first time in her eternal existence.

The aura she had sensed had only flickered briefly, but there was no mistaking it.

It was his.

She closed her eyes, trying to track the lifeform that carried Alex Ray's aura.

"What the hell? Why are there so many?" she hissed, unable to comprehend why Alex Ray's essence now resonated across so many timelines when he had only appeared for a moment.

At the base of the staircase, a hulking figure in purple armor dropped to one knee.

His expression was brutal, fanatical.

"Your Majesty," he said with deep reverence, "though I do not understand your rage, I offer my unwavering service."

It was none other than Emperor Thanos, the most fanatical worshiper of Death. His gaze burned with devotion as he looked up at her, mad love gleaming in his eyes.

"My Queen," he continued, "several more planets have offered themselves to death. If you so wish it, I will ensure the entire universe follows."

Unwilling to see his beloved goddess in distress, Thanos rose and waved his hand. Instantly, legions of dark messengers surged forth from the shadows, speeding toward those worlds.

Moments later, deafening explosions echoed through space. Planets shattered into cosmic dust. Billions of lives were erased in a blink—all because Thanos wanted to earn even the faintest smile from his queen.

But to Death, none of that mattered. The carnage, the destruction—these were mere outlets for her surging anger and gnawing dread.

She had only one desire:

To find Alex Ray.

And to erase him from existence.

"Thanos."

Her voice was cold, razor-sharp.

"Yes, my Queen."

She stepped gracefully down the stairs, stopping before Emperor Thanos. With her long black nails, she caressed his face, whispering:

"You've been so loyal, Thanos. So patient. I think it's time I gave you what you've longed for. But before that… I have a knot in my heart."

She couldn't leave the Realm of Death. Her battle with Alex Ray had left her too weak. So she needed someone else to act in her place.

Whether it was a world or an individual tainted by Alex Ray's essence, she wanted them all to embrace death. And to ensure Thanos did his utmost, she was willing to make a sacrifice.

As for what happened later… she could always reject him later, under the pretense of not being ready. Surely, Thanos wouldn't resent her. He loved her too much for that.

He will never blame me, she thought smugly.

And Thanos understood everything from her words. She didn't need to say more. He would have done anything for her—no matter how impossible.

For centuries, he had laid waste to countless multiverses just to win her affection. She had never granted it—until now.

Now… she had given him a chance.

He had waited thousands of years for this.

"I, Thanos, will walk through hellfire for you!" he declared. His voice boomed with unwavering conviction. Power surged from his soul, shaking the very cosmos.

He didn't care what the mission was.

In his heart, there was no such thing as failure—except in love.

Death gently extended a finger. A deep black flame coiled from her hand, slipping into Thanos's chest like a whisper.

"Destroy them all. Every trace of that aura. Erase him from existence."

The aura of death rippled from her being like a storm.

"Yes, my majesty. I await the honor of delivering you good news," Thanos replied, his voice reverent, his eyes fanatical.

But as he turned to leave, his face slowly darkened.

Because now he understood what she had meant.

The specific aura that had unsettled her…

...came from a man.

This realization sent shockwaves through his heart—rage and jealousy twisted together.

"Who is he?" Thanos seethed inwardly. "Why does she care so much? Why does she fear him?"

"She belongs to me. The Goddess of Death can have only one man."

With that toxic thought burning through his soul, he summoned his entire army.

The warriors who had once terrified the multiverse—the strongest among the strong—answered his call.

From atop a towering platform, Thanos stood clad in pitch-black armor, his crimson cape billowing like a thundercloud.

His aura distorted the space around him, warping reality itself.

He was no longer a lovesick servant.

He was Emperor Thanos—the supreme variant, the ruler of annihilation.

He was the one who had killed Galactus, slain the Watchers, and toppled even the Living Tribunal.

To him, the Hulk was merely a pet.

He now stood revealed in his true form.

"Go, my warriors!" Thanos roared. "Find the source of that aura and destroy it! Erase it from every world and every corner of the multiverse!"

"And hear me well: there is a surname that shall no longer exist in this cosmos—'Ray'."

"Find every single being who bears that name. I don't care who they are or where they hide—hunt them down and end them! Let the universe understand that no one challenges Thanos without paying the ultimate price!"
