Another day passed, and Alex Ray once again returned to the orphanage where Loki was staying.
This time, he didn't see Loki outside.
Instead, he noticed a figure sitting quietly on the steps—it was America Chavez. Her hands were folded on her knees, her eyes occasionally scanning the distance as if waiting for something.
Her face was filled with anticipation and anxiety, as though she instinctively knew that Alex's arrival would mark a turning point.
When she saw him, her eyes lit up—like a fangirl spotting her idol.
After all, this was Alex Ray, the Lord of Hell. It would be amazing if someone like him could stay in Hell's Kitchen permanently—or at least offer protection to the orphanage.
But America's joy lasted only a moment before anxiety returned. She quickly rose to her feet and said urgently:
"Mr. Alex, please check on Loki. He hasn't come out of his room since yesterday. He looks really depressed and won't even eat." She looked worried. "The kids said it started right after he met you…"
She believed Alex was the only one who could help Loki.
Alex was momentarily stunned. Loki... depressed? Over a TV show?
He had assumed Loki would be smug—arrogant even—after watching the Loki series. Proud of his story. He never expected a complete breakdown.
"America, take me to him," Alex said in a low voice.
Led by America, Alex arrived at Loki's door. He gently pushed it open—and was immediately hit by a suffocating gloom.
The room was dim. Loki was half-sprawled in a corner, his posture slack and spiritless. Gone was the cocky trickster from yesterday. His hair was a mess, and his eyes were dull, as if the world had lost all meaning.
When Loki saw Alex enter, he didn't react. His gaze remained hollow.
Alex, curious, reached out with his power—diving into Loki's recent memories.
Yesterday.
When Loki first received the DVD from Alex, he hadn't taken it seriously.
He figured, disc or no disc, he'd regain his divine power soon enough. After all, the seal was Odin's doing, not Alex's.
Still, late that night, curiosity gnawed at him.
"Whatever. It'll help pass the time," he muttered, idly turning the disc in his hand before slipping it into the orphanage's old DVD player.
Click. The screen flickered to life.
The images began to play.
A world that was both familiar and alien unfolded before his eyes.
There, on the screen, was a Loki that looked like him—but acted very differently. Surrounded by strange people in strange uniforms, claiming to be agents of the Time Variance Authority.
Loki frowned. What the hell was this?
He kept watching. The story surged forward like a flood—and every new scene shook him to his core.
He watched in horror as that Loki—he—caused his mother's death by a thoughtless action. Then later, he saw himself killed by Thanos while trying to save Thor.
His face went pale. Shock and disbelief filled his eyes.
He shot to his feet, fists clenched.
"This can't be real! This has to be some kind of trick by Alex!" he roared. He couldn't accept it. Wouldn't believe that his fate was so… tragic.
But then the story unfolded further.
He saw other versions of Loki—each more bizarre and fascinating than the last.
And then came Old Loki—who created an entire illusion of Asgard from pure magic. That alone proved how deeply the old Loki loved their home.
Loki was forced to accept it: this wasn't fiction.
It was truth.
He learned the secret of the TVA. He watched that Loki grow, evolve, suffer—and ultimately become the God of Stories, writing his own fate with wisdom and courage.
For a moment, Loki felt a swell of pride.
But that pride soon gave way to confusion and dread.
What if everything was predetermined?
What if he had no real choices?
What if he existed only to live out a scripted tragedy?
Was he destined to repeat the same mistakes… to lose his mother… to die again?
He didn't know anymore.
His dreams—of surpassing Thor, of proving his worth—they felt meaningless now.
Because in every version, he failed.
He caused his mother's death. He died at Thanos's hand.
No matter what he tried—he lost.
Back in the present, Alex pulled away from Loki's thoughts.
He frowned.
"That's it? You're falling apart over a damn TV show?" he scoffed.
To Alex, this was weak—soft-hearted nonsense. It was nothing like the cunning, resilient Loki he remembered.
But, to be fair, it wasn't entirely Loki's fault.
Alex had tossed him into Hell's Kitchen with no support, shattered his confidence, and left him to fend for himself. Loki had finally found some strength to get back up—only for Alex to drop a metaphorical meteor on him.
This time, Loki truly collapsed.
He sank into a pit of self-doubt and despair, as if the entire world had lost color.
Alex wasn't his parent—he had no intention of coddling him.
He spoke sharply. "If the other Loki saw you like this, he'd be disappointed."
"What are you sulking for?"
"Your father's alive. Your mother's alive. Thanos is already dead—I took care of him. Your fate has changed."
"You don't have to suffer like the other Loki. So why the hell aren't you getting stronger and protecting everything you have?"
His words sliced through the silence like blades, aimed directly at Loki's soul.
And Alex was right.
Compared to the multiversal Lokis, this one had it easy.
The Dark Elves hadn't come for his mother—Alex didn't even think they would show up in this timeline.
Thanos was gone—killed by Alex long ago.
There would be no throne, no burden of being the God of Stories.
"What are you afraid of?" Alex muttered coldly. "Be decadent for all I care. I'm not your damn father."
Without waiting for a response, Alex grabbed Loki by the collar, opened a portal, and stepped through.
In an instant, they arrived in Asgard.
