"So what do you want?" Reed asked warily, his eyes fixed on Kang, trying to read any trace of motive from his expression.
Kang smiled faintly, a hint of surprise flickering across his features. "You don't know?" he said, genuinely curious. He could clearly sense that Reed truly had no idea. That realization made him re-evaluate the man in front of him.
"Have you heard of the Council of Kang—or more formally, the Kang Dynasty?" Kang asked, frowning slightly, a trace of expectation in his voice.
Reed froze, confused. "Uh... I haven't heard of it," he answered honestly.
Upon hearing this, Kang's expression shifted to understanding. "I see... I overestimated you. Your position in the Reed Council must not be very high."
His words cut like a knife.
Reed's face darkened immediately, wounded by the jab. "You're incredible. You're amazing. You hold some high position in the so-called Kang Council," he said bitterly, his words laced with resentment.
This Kang reminded him of someone he didn't like remembering—Alex Ray from Hell's Kitchen. The arrogance, the confidence—it was the same.
"You know," Reed continued, forcing calm into his tone, "the Reed Council isn't some trivial organization. It's expected that new members won't be privy to everything. I've only recently joined, so it's not exactly my fault."
In truth, Reed knew that, as a relatively average variant, even being allowed into the periphery of the Reed Council was an enormous privilege. Many other Reed variants never even got close.
The Reed Council wasn't for everyone.
Only the most brilliant Reed Richards across the multiverse could enter that mysterious, elite assembly.
He had been elated when he was accepted. For a long time, he truly believed he was the most extraordinary mind on his Earth.
But now, looking into Kang's deep, assured gaze, Reed began to question that belief.
Kang clearly knew more.
Which meant, in some way, Kang was better.
And that realization triggered a bitter wave of jealousy and frustration in Reed's chest—along with a creeping suspicion.
He couldn't allow himself to admit that Kang was superior.
What Reed didn't know was that if he hadn't stolen Susan's Reality Gem, and if this wasn't Alex Ray's universe, the Reed Council would never have taken him seriously.
"Hmph... seems Conqueror Kang was right. No matter which Reed it is, he's always a hypocrite. Why is it so hard for you people to acknowledge someone else's greatness?" Kang said coldly, his voice dripping with contempt.
"With my abilities, I'd be welcomed in any faction I choose," he added, with a nonchalant shrug—as if stating something painfully obvious.
His confidence rubbed Reed the wrong way. Reed felt the heat of anger stirring in his chest. This Kang was unbearably smug.
But the truth was that Kang had joined the Council of Kangs even before obtaining the golden serum. At the time, Conqueror Kang and the others hadn't paid much attention to him.
After all, any Kang variant could apply to join the Council of Kangs.
But that didn't mean they were equals.
The difference between the Kang Dynasty and the Reed Council was like night and day.
The Kang Dynasty was born from Conqueror Kang's deep disdain for the stupidity of some of his own variants. In order to protect the legacy of the name "Kang," he vowed to eliminate every foolish version of himself across the multiverse.
That unwavering conviction drove him to seek out other, stronger variants—eventually forming a fearsome inner circle: the Council of Kangs.
At its core were three powerful members—Crimson Centurion Kang, Ramatut (also known as Pharaoh Kang), and Conqueror Kang himself.
Another critical branch was the Council of Kangs, a broader assembly of Kangs who had survived the brutal Kang Wars—a multiversal conflict that culled the weak and elevated only the strongest.
Not all members of the Kang Parliament were Kangs. Some were powerful aliens or other beings who had earned their place through strength, adding even more diversity—and danger.
Among them was Golden Sentinel Kang.
After receiving the golden blood, Golden Sentinel Kang had risen in prominence during the Kang War, surviving trials that wiped out thousands of variants. Only the victor emerged alive. And he had survived.
The so-called "war" wasn't just metaphorical. It was an actual battle royale—ruthless, unforgiving, final.
In their base, there was a colossal arena.
It had seen countless Kangs bleed, kill, and die. The arena was the crucible of their creed: Only the strongest may rule.
That was the ethos of the Kang Dynasty.
That was why Kang had drunk the golden serum—knowing it might kill him.
Even if it meant offending Hell's Kitchen, even if the serum wasn't fully stabilized, he drank it.
Because he knew: if he didn't evolve, he would die.
Drinking might kill him.
Not drinking definitely would.
He took the gamble—and won.
The power that Golden Sentinel Kang unleashed caught even Conqueror Kang's attention.
In every universe, the Golden Sentinel was a force to be reckoned with. Seeing his potential, Conqueror Kang brought him into the Kang Council, granting him access to privileged intel—including multiversal secrets like the identity of Alex Ray, the hidden history of the Dark Night Lord, and their plans for the Time Variance Authority.
He also knew about the Reed Council. Which is why he was here, speaking to Reed.
Whether or not Alex Ray was truly linked to the Dark Night Lord was irrelevant to Conqueror Kang. But he had still entrusted the task to Golden Sentinel Kang.
Because recently, they had found a suspect—someone who had killed multiple gods across the multiverse.
Golden Sentinel Kang already knew: that "successor" was Alex Ray.
The Kang Dynasty's real target was the Time Variance Authority.
But the universe Alex Ray existed in… it was different.
Conqueror Kang had warned him. This universe radiated the presence of the Chaos Goddess, the Vishanti, and Dormammu. It was too risky to enter directly.
Moreover, this world was tied to the Celestial God Clan.
Because of Alex's presence, once a Celestial dies, a new god is born. And every time that happened, Earth was at risk of total destruction.
That was the coming crisis.
Kang turned to Reed, his expression grim. "Your Earth is facing annihilation."
Reed paled.
"How is that even possible…?"
"Then what is your real purpose?"
