Chapter 440 - Chapter 440 : Captain Universe Spider-Man

As Alex Ray walked into Spider-Man's base, his expression grew darker by the second.

The number of injured Spider-Men far exceeded what he had expected. Some were sitting or lying down, wrapped in bandages, their faces twisted with fatigue and pain. Others were covered with white cloth—already declared dead.

The entire scene was far more severe and complex than he had imagined.

Originally, Alex thought that Spider-Man 2099 had contacted him urgently because his headquarters had been unexpectedly attacked and needed backup. But the scene in front of him told a different story—one far more complicated.

He looked around carefully. The buildings of the base were intact. The zones were clearly divided and orderly. There were no signs of structural damage or forced entry.

That made him pause.

If these Spider-Men weren't hurt by external assault, then what had caused this?

Several theories flashed through his mind: perhaps the Spider-Men had taken part in a coordinated strike against a powerful enemy—and failed. Or maybe these Spider-Men, drawn from various universes, had fought individually in their own realms and each had encountered an overwhelming threat.

Based on what he saw and heard, Alex was more inclined toward the latter.

But regardless of the reason, one thing was clear: the Spider-Men were being hunted.

With that heavy realization weighing on him, Alex moved deeper into the base until he reached the command hub at its core.

There, Spider-Man 2099 stood at the helm of a massive holographic console, fingers flying across virtual buttons, urgently coordinating operations as if racing against time.

All around him, other Spider-Men worked feverishly at their stations—analyzing multiversal data, tracking enemy movements, allocating dwindling resources. The base ran like a high-precision war engine, straining to hold against collapse.

Alex didn't speak right away. Instead, he waited quietly on the side, listening intently to pick up on any fragments of information.

Finally, he heard the critical detail.

Spider-Men across the multiverse were suffering unprecedented attacks—with overwhelming casualties.

The enemies were so devastatingly powerful that even multiversal Spider-Men could barely rescue their own, let alone defeat the enemy. Entire squads had been wiped out.

The survival ratio was staggering—five Spider-Men were needed just to save one. For every rescue, five others were lost.

Alex's brow tightened.

Without hesitation, he stepped up to Spider-Man 2099, placed a firm hand on his shoulder, and said, "Let me help."

He was, after all, nominally still an ally of the Spider-Verse. More than that, he had a stake in this war.

Spider-Man 2099 visibly stiffened at Alex's touch. His eyes were sunken from exhaustion, but there was something else—something darker. A simmering, quiet fury. A sense of helplessness that rarely surfaced in the man known for cool control.

He took a deep breath and spoke in a low, worn voice. "You can't go."

Alex frowned. "Why not? What aren't you telling me?"

Spider-Man 2099 hesitated.

"What's really going on?" Alex asked again, more sharply now.

After a long pause, Spider-Man 2099 finally began, his voice low and steady, like he was walking through broken glass.

"Three days ago, a group of unidentified enemies appeared in the multiverse. They didn't come from any known realm—they emerged from void-like nothingness. And they didn't hesitate. They attacked with only one goal: to kill."

"At first, we underestimated them. Until Spider-Men started dying. Then more. Then more."

He clenched his fists.

"We launched emergency rescue missions, but their power… it far exceeded what we expected. Every battle came at a massive cost. So we dug deeper, trying to learn who they were. We traced their movements, analyzed their weapons, but... they left no trace in the multiverse. It was like they came from another dimension entirely. Something beyond even the Spider-Verse."

"At first, we believed we were the target. That this was a war against Spider-Men. But after interviewing a handful of survivors, we discovered the truth."

Spider-Man 2099 stopped. His gaze shifted, locking eyes with Alex. The weight of unspoken truth made the air grow heavy.

Alex stared at him, waiting.

But the other man couldn't continue.

His lips moved slightly—but no words came out.

The silence stretched long and tense. Time itself seemed to freeze.

Then, a new voice emerged from behind Alex.

"Let me speak for him."

Alex spun around.

Behind him stood a Spider-Man he had never met. Yet, the moment he saw him, he knew who he was—Captain Universe Spider-Man, the most powerful Spider-Man in the entire multiverse.

His suit was unlike any other. The lower half shimmered in pure white; the upper half was a deep cosmic blue, nearly black—like the very void of space wrapped around him. Across the suit's surface ran constellations of glowing white patterns, pulsing with a power that defied comprehension.

Captain Universe Spider-Man wasn't officially part of the Spider-Verse Alliance. Why was he here now?

More troubling—he was injured.

Alex's eyes narrowed. Captain Universe Spider-Man was a demigod-level entity, someone who had fought Galactus and survived. For him to be wounded—it meant the enemy was beyond terrifying.

The situation was worse than he feared.

Captain Universe Spider-Man's voice was low and steady, but even he sounded weary. "They call themselves Reincarnators. They have two primary objectives. First: destroy every iteration of Hell's Kitchen. Second: find a man named… Alex Ray."

At the sound of his name, Alex's eyes narrowed sharply.

Rage and guilt ignited inside him like gasoline poured on fire.

He had known, deep down, that the Reincarnators would eventually come for him. But he never expected their methods to be so ruthless—so indiscriminately cruel.

Thousands of innocent people had died simply because of their association with Hell's Kitchen—because they stood near his legacy.

Alex clenched his fists.

Without another word, he turned and opened a portal behind him—ready to leave and make the Reincarnators pay in blood.

But before he could step through, Captain Universe raised his voice.

"Alex Ray, wait."

Alex froze.

"I know you want revenge. I don't blame you. But you can't go in blind," the captain continued. "There are things you need to know. If you don't understand the enemy—what they are, what they've become—you'll only throw yourself into their hands."

Alex turned slightly, his voice rough. "Then tell me."
