Chapter 11 - Chapter 10 Churail

The lady was smiling the whole-time watching Jay as he questioned her. After a while she stopped him and said, "My marriage was not against my will. I was very happy during my wedding." She stopped talking and looked to the west. Everyone also looked that way and they realised the sun was setting. She looked towards them and said, "You should hurry and go home. It's getting late. Your family's will worry about you." After saying this she stood up.

Just as she was about to walk away Bijay called her, "Sister, are you coming here again tomorrow?"

She stopped and looked back, asked, "Why are you asking that?"

Bijay said, "You did not tell us your story. We want to know about your life. Can you come here again tomorrow?"

Hearing that she laughed a little and said, "What do you want to know about my life?"

Bijay said, "You seemed to be very familiar with this place. But most people avoid this place like some kind of plague. Just from this you seem a very brave person. So, your childhood must be very fun. Tell us those stories tomorrow. We will come here again tomorrow."

She just smiled a little and said, "Are you brave enough to hear my stories? If you can come back here tomorrow, then I will tell you everything." After saying that she left without looking back.

All of them became a little baffled after hearing that. They thought what would scare them that so much that they won't want to come here again. What is going to happen to them that night.

Though they were thinking about the next possible situation on their way home. After coming home, they thought about many possibilities but could not think about anything.

That night something happened after everyone went to sleep. At midnight Bijay suddenly woke up with a start. After opening his eyes, he looked around the room but saw nothing out of the place. But he had that weird feeling of being watch. He felt as if someone was staring at him and that person was near him. But as he was looking around the room no one was there. He thought he was mistaken and tried to sleep again. Just as he was getting a little sleepy, he suddenly heard sound of anklets. Like someone was walking inside the room. But the creepy thing was he could not see anybody. He suddenly sat up and switch on the light, but no one was there. After a while, just as he tries to sleep again this happens again. This time he starts to understand that everything is real. Whatever is happening is real. There must be someone in the room, but he is unable to see them.

What he didn't know was everyone was experiencing the same thing. At first, they all were a little confused but after a while that confusion became horror. Though none of them believed in ghost, they could only think that a ghost was doing this to scare them. As time passed by, they started to see a shadow. After hearing whispers too. That night was the scariest night in their life.

Next morning all of them looked worn out. Their uncle asked them what was going on. They did not say anything to him or anybody. They feared if they told them everything then they won't be allowed to go up there again. So, no one says anything during the breakfast. After eating they goes up the hill again. They packed their food for the day as decided to stay up there all day.

After going up they saw the lady was already waiting there for them. Seeing her they went near her and sat down. After some pleasantries they started to insist her to tell her stories to them. After a while she starts, "Looks like you are not scared about what happened last night."

They were all a little stunned to hear that. Unable to understand what she was saying they asked, "What do you mean by that? Why should we be scared?"

"It's nothing. Let's start with my story." She started speaking. "I live in a nearby village. A little farther from your village. You might not recognize it as you don't live here. I've had a very happy childhood. Like most children i loved to play with my friends all day. At that time this temple was not abandoned at all. Many people came here to worship the idol. People used to say that the goddess here hears everyone's prayer. If you want something with all your heart, she will bless you and that wish will become real."

After hearing that Jay commented, "Does something like that really happens? If it is then why is this place is abandoned?"

She smiled at him and said, "You will understand after hearing the whole story. She started again, after hearing everyone say that I asked my aunt what to wish. She told me to wish about having a good husband. I also wished the same thing. When I was nineteen years old my family arranged my marriage to a person from a neighbouring village. I was happy knowing that. Every girl dreams about getting married, I also did that. After my marriage everything was good for some time. But after a few months of my marriage my in laws started to tell us about having a baby. Though I did not want to have a baby so soon, for everyone's sake we decided to have one. After I was pregnant with my baby, they started to act a little differently than before. They started to change, I thought that it was for the good. But they started to treat me differently, they tried to force their opinion on me. If I tried to resist them then they will scold me at beginning. But as I was getting on month they started to blame me for every small thing. And before they would just scold me but this time they started getting physical. One day without any reason my sister-in-law suddenly slapped me. I was stunned at first and asked why she slapped me, she said she was angry with me because I stole her things. When I was trying to reason with her, telling her that I did not even enter her room she suddenly became enraged and started to beat me. As I was few months pregnant that time, I could not resist her. Others came running after hearing the noise. After separating us they asked what has happened. That time I wasn't in a condition to answer. My stomach started hurting so they took me to the hospital. My child was saved that time, but the doctor told me to stay more cautious in the future. My family also came, and they took me home to recuperate. After some day they came to get me and also apologies for the incident. I went back with them and that was my biggest mistake. After going back everything was good but as days went by, I was cornered and accused again for things I did not do. And one day they burst in my room and started scolding and accusing me of cheating. They did not even give me time to say anything. The beat me and my stomach started hurting. I cried but they did not listen at all. My husband was staying in the city for work. After a while when my cries became louder, they came to their senses and called a midwife to see what was wrong with me and if the baby was okey or not. I went to labour that night. I ignored the pain from all over my body. I could tell their beating broke my bones and my sister-in-law hit me with some wood on my ancle. That time I could hear my bone breaking but for my child I ignored all my pain and prayed for its safety. But that night my baby died. After hearing the news, they became even more aggressive and started scolding me. After a while they came inside the room and started to beat me again. This time they did not stop until I fainted. I was already beaten, my child was killed by them, but they did not feel any remorse at all. They blamed me for giving birth to a dead baby. During the beating they did not realise I died. When they saw I was not responding, they thought I just fainted from the beating. So, they just left me there and went back. It happened at night, so no one came to see. They did not even care to see if the child was really dead or alive. They left me and my child there in cold. All my dreams were killed that night by them. But they did not feel any guilt at all. Even next morning nobody came to see me. If I was alive or not. They thought I was holed in my room crying from the loss of my child."
