I let out a slow breath I didn't even know I was holding.


He saw it. He saw me slap that disgusting guard.


"I'm glad he saw it," I whispered to myself, barely moving my lips. "I'm so, so glad."


But of course, the moment I thought I could breathe, the guard opened his mouth again. His voice came out so fake, I wanted to scream.


"My Alpha, that's not what happened at all!" he protested like a child who just got caught stealing. "She slapped me because I refused to agree to her offer. She kept trying to seduce me into showing her where your valuables are."


My jaw almost dropped to the floor. He was still saying that?


Alpha Kael turned slowly to face him again.


"You don't even know where my valuables are," Kael said calmly, dangerously calm. "So tell me… why are you standing here saying a bunch of stupid lies?"


The guard blinked, completely caught off guard.
