Dashing through the trees at inhuman speeds.
Carlisle, who was leading the run, immediately halted.
And the two ghouls that followed him stopped when they noticed his standing figure.
"What is it?" Jasper was the first to ask. Carlisle just stared in a single direction, eyes unwilling to yield.
Jasper turned his eyes, and they widened when he saw it.
Edward arrived from behind, walking toward the two. He stood next to them and turned his eyes to where they were looking.
"Are you sure there was a pack?" Carlisle asked, not turning his head to any of them.
"They were here minutes ago," Jasper said, turning his eyes to the surrounding trees. "Do you think he sent them back?"
"Unlikely," Edward shot. "They wouldn't leave him alone without any protection."
"But he's not alone," Jasper spoke. And their eyes instinctively shot to the girl behind the old man, holding the wheelchair. "She's a shifter."
Silence overtook them. Was it minutes, seconds? Time didn't register.
"I only smell the girl," Edward said, turning his head to Jasper, who immediately nodded. They turned to Carlisle, who stared for a while longer.
"They aren't anywhere close," he said. "He must not want them to hear what he has to say." Uneasiness crept up his spine. He nodded, began walking forward, and they both followed.
They arrived near him in less than seconds. Not running, not sprinting, but walking with inhuman speed.
"Cullen," Billy greeted, which received a nod from the inhuman creatures who were walking toward him. "We have so much to talk about."

Vlad cried, his eyes turned to the piled-up scene of unwashed dishes.
"I wish Alucard had some cleaning magic," he said, bruising his hair in frustration.
BEEP!
He sighed in pain, eyes slightly closed, as though trying their hardest to release the hardship he was currently facing.
Ignoring his agony, Vlad walked to the mirror, only to be met with an almost see-through reflection.
"Still fading, huh?" he whispered, shook his head, then grabbed his jacket that was hanging on the couch.
He walked to the door, looked back, and sighed.
THUD!
And walked out.
BEEP!
He sighed again, moved closer to the orange car that was visibly expensive, opened the door, and sat on its seat without any permission, then turned his head.
"What's with that expression?" he said, noting how Alice, a woman who had asked to take him out, smiled wildly while maintaining eye contact. "Stop," he laughed, seeing how she didn't stop staring.
Alice giggled as she started the engine.
"Nothing," she said, driving away. "Just thought you would take longer."
Vlad frowned, raised an eyebrow.
"You hit the hooter like… I don't know, ten times," he said, noticing the amusement she was feeling from her giggles. "And you expected me to take longer?" he sighed as he spoke.
She turned to him, smiling, and her head slightly bent to the right.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked, feeling unease creeping up his spine as he observed how little of her attention was on the road.
"Don't you notice anything… different?" she asked, and Vlad immediately understood what was happening.
How could he not understand? All the romantic movies he had ever watched, all the horror films that almost always had a main character who had a love interest who ironically always met a tragic end?
"Oh yeah," he said, trying to save himself. But as he moved his eyes to what she was wearing, his pupils almost widened in regret.
A normal black dress that fitted her figure far too well for the ordinary. A top too similar to what she always wore at school. Shoes that did nothing to increase her height in the slightest.
Absolutely nothing about her gave him any idea of what she deemed significant.
"You look amazing…" He didn't lie, but he knew that she saw right through him. Right through the obviousness hidden by the truth.
"Really?" she said, expression holding back some giggles. "So, I'm guessing you didn't notice, did you?"
Vlad sighed with a nod.
She giggled, moved her eyes forward, and continued her drive.
Vlad shook his head when he saw this, because right when he turned his eyes to where she was looking, he analyzed the road and the direction they were driving.
"You aren't taking me to lunch, are you?" he asked, a hand now raised to his head, rubbing his forehead in stress.
"Yep," she replied, a smile still embedded on her lips.
*********
{"The pinky has abducted me!"} Vlad sent a message to Bella, who, as expected, only sent back laughing emojis and a request to see if Edward was around.
Vlad turned his eyes to the side, stared at Alice for a long minute, then turned his eyes back to the road.
It was a one-way road surrounded by trees, and not far from them was a wooden house that had large see-through windows.
Vlad frowned, turned to Alice again. But this time, he noticed how her expression had changed from neutral to serious.
"You good?" he asked, to which her only reply was a half-forced smile. "Do I really have to do this? I mean, I see no reason for us to even meet."
The half-forced smile disappeared. She lowered her head, eyes completely ignoring the road.
He noted how her eyes had lost their spark, how her lips now held no hint of the once-present smile.
"Vlad," she said, head now raised and eyes completely locked with his, "they have to tell you something."
