THUD!
"No, I'm not asking her about your crush," Vlad said through the phone while hanging up.
He pushed the door back, closing it, then immediately moved to his room. Pushing the door, he moved to the coffin as it opened itself.
He leaped, letting his body fall within it. Then, his eyes slowly began to close.
It was 1 a.m., and he had insisted on leaving, even though Carlie had suggested he sleep on the couch.
And as though sensing the future, the coffin didn't close this time. It just remained open for a while longer.
THOT!
"I should really shut this thing off," Vlad whispered, already regretting buying the new phone he had gotten the same week.
Nokia N70, something that proved too indestructible to overlook.
Mustering his strength and moving his hand toward his pocket, he took it out. Checked its content. And a faint smile ran through the corners of his lips.
{ "You owe me a date, Mr. Dracul," } it said. And he laughed slightly after reading it.
Then, unexpectedly, his nose picked up the scent of dogs moving around not far from him. They weren't coming toward him, just passing by, as though he was never supposed to smell them in the first place. Not that he could help it, since he lived closer to the woods.
Ignoring them completely, Vlad threw his phone to the far end of the room. He didn't use any of his strength, just a weak toss. And as expected, he heard no damage.
'I guess it's true,' he thought, smiling. 'This stuff might really be indestructible.'
He turned his head, then sank it into the cushions of the comfortable coffin.
And drifted to sleep. Not because of exhaustion or fatigue, just… nothing.

"Not even you, huh?" Carlisle sighed, his figure seated on the sofa, surrounded by his wife and a few of his children.
Edward nodded, eyes looking down, and his expression seeming somewhat uncomfortable.
"It was as if it wasn't hearing anything," he said, his confusion growing deeper, "like… I was normal."
Edythe's eyes flickered for a moment, then they lost their spark. And her arm softly tightened around Alice, who was leaning her head on her chest.
Carlisle turned his eyes back to Edward, clearly curious about what he said. Edward noticed, then continued.
"Hearing minds is not something that can be easily controlled," he said. "It's always active, something which I…" he hesitated, glanced his eyes at Edythe, "something 'we' have trouble controlling on a day-to-day basis."
It took some time for him to continue, as though his mind was trying to assess some understanding.
"It's harder to stop hearing things than trying to listen," he said, but with him, I felt as though it was all gone—the effort, the control, everything. As though I didn't have it in the first place."
Carlisle glanced toward Edythe, who nodded when she noted him. He leaned back on the couch, then drifted into thought.
"What if you…" Esme tried to speak up, but Edward's eyes shot to Alice before she could suggest.
They locked with hers. She shook her head, then his mouth twitched lightly.
He returned his head to the ground, feet now rising and falling in a rhythm.
"You should try him tomorrow," Edythe whispered, loud enough for all of them to hear.
Unanswered, Carlisle turned his eyes to Alice, who smiled awkwardly.
"We are meeting tomorrow," she said. "That would probably be a good time to fill him in."
"Are you sure, my dear?" Esme asked, compassion tangible in her eyes.
Alice smiled, giggled softly.
"Yeah," she said, turning her head to Edythe, nearing it closer to her ear, "wanna come help me pick out an outfit?"
Edythe laughed at her words, and the siblings surrounding them shared a smile.
Except Edward, whose eyes still held their gaze to the floor.
Carlisle, who was seated near him, touched his shoulder, exhaling.
Perhaps feeling somewhat sorry for the old man of a child who sat before him.
Yet, before the feelings could settle, right when the atmosphere was beginning to brighten—
SWOO!
Emmett dashed in. Behind him, Jasper followed.
They stopped in the middle of the living room, faces showing hints of worry.
Carlisle stood up as though sensing the tension.
"The Wolves," Jasper said, eyes widened. "They want to meet."
—----------
"Again?" Rosalie's brows furrowed, and Emmett nodded at her question.
"What did they say it was about?" Carlisle asked, his hand hung around Esme, who held on to him like a leech.
"They didn't specify," Jasper said, "but…" Edward frowned at information unknown to too few, and so did Edythe. "They have a shifter… a woman?"
"A woman?" Carlisle asked again, completely stunned.
"Yes," Jasper replied bluntly, "but she's recent. It's the same one who accompanied Billy Black the last time."
Edward's frown deepened. Everything from the previous night was finally making sense.
"How many are they?"
"Just four," Jasper said. "It's Billy, the girl, and a few pack members."
"Three will be enough." Carlisle slipped Esme off him, kissed her on the cheek, then nodded at Edward, who nodded back.
He moved to the door, sprinted out, and his figure disappeared.
Edward sprinted out behind him first.
Jasper looked back at Edythe, blew a kiss, smiled, and then dashed behind them.
The others remained, left behind with a giant protector, a teddy bear. Or at least to Rosalie, all of them.
