Synopsis
In a campus where everyone seems to speak in noise, she found comfort in the quiet — and he, the boy made of confidence and contradictions, was the loudest silence she ever heard. Joanne Overton prefers the shadows of Brighton University: sketchbooks over selfies, headphones over hellos. She's the quiet wallflower trying to push herself into the chaos of college life. Paxton Lawrence is the charismatic golden boy — the kind of guy who turns heads without trying, carrying secrets behind smirks and stadium cheers. What starts as a reluctant team-up in the cultural committee soon spirals into late-night texts, stolen glances, and a connection too intense to name. But standing in their way? A web of unspoken traumas, fierce rivalries, bitter misunderstandings — and one queen bee who isn’t ready to let go. In a world where popularity is currency and vulnerability feels like weakness, A Symphony of Us is a slow-burn love letter to soft hearts, second chances, and the terrifying beauty of being truly seen.

Chapter 1 - first impressions

From the moment you entered, our worlds collided, In your quiet eyes, I saw love, undivided.

Brighton University, was a perfect blend of tradition and ambition. Its ivy-clad buildings, cobblestone pathways, and gothic library reflected a rich history, while sleek innovation labs and a bustling athletics complex showcased its modern edge. The campus buzzed with life-from the lively Heritage Quadrangle, where students gathered, to the serene West Gardens, a haven for quiet reflection, Clubs and societies thrived, offering everything from dramatic theater productions to intimate book readings.

Brighton wasn't just a place to study, it was a community where dreams were forged, friendships blossomed, and stories. During the amidst of all this was Paxton, the quintessential heartthrob of Brighton University, was the kind of guy who turned heads wherever he went. With his effortless charm, dimpled smiles, and a knack for making everyone feel seen, he was the star of every room he entered. Whether it was acing debates, dominating sports, or simply cracking jokes in the quad, Paxton's life seemed perfect from the outside. But beneath the confident exterior, there was a longing a yearning for something. more authentic than the shallow adoration he was used to. Just the name 'Paxton Lawrence' was enough to get the toughest of the tough girls on her knees begging for his attention. However even after all this the soccer team captain didnt give damn about any possible girl who showed up.

Joanne was the kind of girl who felt most at home in the quiet corners of the world. While others thrived in the spotlight, she preferred the shadows, her presence os soft as the whisper of pages turning in an old library. She wasn't shy, exactly-just reserved, like an artist guarding an unfinished masterpiece.

Her creativity flowed through her fingers into her sketchbook, where she built entire worlds of color and imagination that she rarely shared with others. Joanne had a knack for noticing the little things-the way sunlight caught on a stroy thread of her sweater, or the secret stories hidden in the faces of passersby. Her amber eyes carried a warmth that spoke of depth, though her quiet demeanor often left her underestimated.

She loved music, but not the loud, pounding beats her peers played in the quad. Instead, she disappeared into melodies through her headphones, weaving a private soundtrock for her life. For Joanne, headphones were her armor, her solace, and her escape a barrier between her world and the chaos of Brighton University.

While others thought she was closed off, Joanne was anything but. Beneath her layers of self-protection lay a heart eager to connect, to trust, and to be seen for the person she truly was. It was just a matter of finding someone patient enough to see through her quiet exterior and hear the symphony she carried within.

"Anyone interested in joining the college cultural committee? We have a event upcoming and are looking forward to participation from the sophomore kids! Announced the Cultural committee student president. After a pouse for around a second or two he continued "The forms are uploaded on the college. website go ahead and check them! The deline for submission is supposedly tomorrow afternoon. Thank y'all, and sorry for the disturbance professor"

Whispers were heard all around the classroom the sophomores discussing about the what if's regarding the participation. Amongst this the choos, Joanne was spotted already filling up the form dedicated to improve her social life this year, atleast a bit.

| Hey.

Miss, Joanne Overton We are glad to inform you about your selection in Bridgeton University's cultural department, The Meridian Guild, as a part of the Assistant Cultural Coordinator section. We are overjoyed to have you as a part of this department and looking forward to meeting you at the meeting scheduled on 1st September at 5pm sharp.

Thank you,

Cultural Department.

Joanne stared at her phone screen, rereading the email for the fifth time. Assistant Cultural Coordinator. She wasn't sure whether to feel excited or terrified or both, "Ist September. Tomorrow," she mumbled, her voice shaky. Anxiety churned in her stomach at the thought of facing a room full of strangers. "You've got this, Anne," she whispered, her reflection in the window offering little reassurance,

On the otherside of the spectrum, there Paxton was celebrating the fact that he finally got his position in the department changed from being a part of the Assistant Volunteer Coodinators section to the Assistant Cultural Coordinator section. It wasn't that difficult for him though. Being a popular teen since the freshman year always came handy in his case. "Amyl Wassup girlie?" Paxton said spotting his childhood friend in the cafeteria.

Amy entered the scene like she owned it because, in her mind, she did. Her presence was magnetic, her confidence sharp as the click of her heels on the cobblestone paths of Brighton University. With flawless blonde waves cascading down her back and lips pointed the perfect shade of crimson, she was the girl who turned heads without trying. Her laughter, rich and controlled, carried across the courtyard like a melody designed to command. attention.

She thrived in the spotlight, but it wasn't just about vanity, it was about control. Amy excelled at reading people, slipping into their lives like a thread of silk, only to tie everything in knots. She was the unofficial queen of the cultural department, and if you wanted a shot at the stage or any stage, for that matter you had to go through her. Amy Gardner, the Dance and Choreography Head in the cultural department since the freshmen year, there is this belief in Bridgeton which says 'Amy doesnt follow beats, Beats follow Amy. Having her as the one belonging to the opposition team in terms of dance is like playing with the fire. And her addtitude makes dealing with her kinda hard for anyone and everyone unless its Paxton we are talking about.

"Hey Paxl" Amy waved back! She waited for Paxton to reach up to her and then continued, "Wanna join for a coffee after college?"

"Yeah sure why not!" Paxton took no time in replying! After all they have known each other for years now!

The next day showed up way more earlier than Joanne anticipated and here she was at the auditorium with tones of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors surrounding her, everyone waiting for the meeting to commence.

The auditorium doors swung open, and in came Paxton, surrounded by his crew. The Hotshots moved like a ripple through the crowd effortlessly confident, their laughter cutting through the murmurs. Paxton's charm was. impossible to miss, but it was the way he carried himself-like the world bent to him-that made heads turn. He caught sight of an empty seat beside a girl fidgeting with her notebook and made his way over without hesitation.

Having the most popular kid, Paxton Lawrence sitting beside her was the last. thing one Joanne's list for the day. "Anxious?" He asked a bit concerned.

"Kindal" Joanne replied a bit cautions about her words, behaviour and actions. "You are gonna be fine girlie, not like its some kind of job interview anyways its just a meeting" Paxton said obliviously downplaying Joanne's anxiety leading to a spark of selfconciousness in her already wrecked mind.

"HAHA! Thank you that definitely helped a lot She replied her voice lacing with insone amount of sarcasm.

"What department are you applying for anyways?" Paxton asked. He was talking to her as if they have known each other for quite sometime now.

"The Assistant Cultural Coordinator section? She replied only to be rolling eyes later when she heard Paxton enthusiastically chim "Dang! We are in the some section Missy".

The meeting started shortly after their conversation with the head of each department introducing themselves and then asking the newcomers to introduce themselves respectively. Later the hods started explaining and discussing about the upcoming event.

During all this Paxton and Joanne started getting along with each other. Honestly speaking they weren't actually getting along it was just Paxton asking her numerous questions and the poor anxious girl replying to the questions. However all this easily caught the attention of Amyl Speaking about her? Well she is kinda protective about her friends! Her eyes jealously watched the duo as they chatted and laughed occasionally.
