The confined soul thrummed in my hand as I pulled it from the glass case—almost as though it was responding to my whispered promise. I gently cradled it against my chest as I exited the lab once more.
“Miu,” I called lightly, summoning the dragon down from the rooftop. It only took a moment before the windows of the study flew open, announcing his arrival.
“Noa!” he called excitedly as he burst into the room. He rushed over to my side, and I let out a small chuckle before adjusting the ID badge hanging around his neck. I was glad I’d had the forethought to attach it to a chain to prevent the excitable child from losing it immediately.
“It’s time,” I said.
“Then, should we go get it?” Miu asked, his hands tensing into tiny fists as he instinctively understood what I was referring to.
I took a deep breath, giving him a nod of reassurance. “Yeah, let’s go.”
