The Chief of the Investigation and Security Bureau lived in a three-story home located on the outskirts of the Isette District. The quiet house’s perfectly polished interior and no-nonsense atmosphere was a direct reflection of its owner. According to Paul, however, Kyle rarely actually stayed in the house since he preferred to spend nights at the bureau, where he could maximize his efficiency. The information had caused a scandalized gasp to escape me as I realized Kyle’s insistence that I could not sleep in the annex’s lab was pure hypocrisy. Yet, just as he tended to worry about my well-being, I also found myself concerned about the detective’s living habits. The day I agreed to stay with him, I forced him to agree to a few stipulations.
“Promise me you’ll go home with me regularly,” I demanded.
“I will,” Kyle agreed with ease.
My eyes narrowed as I pressed, “And promise to cook meals as well.”
