I had honestly planned to pull away immediately after the kiss, intending to treat it with the same casual air that Kyle had exhibited earlier. However, the moment I pulled away and met his gaze, I felt compelled to find his lips once more. His half-lidded eyes drew me in with a bewitching lure, and I was helpless to do anything but comply. My body remembered motions he’d used to kiss me before, reacting instinctively as my head tilted into his. I bit his lower lip, tugging it gently before releasing it with a moist pop. A familiar tingle began to spread down my spine as I pulled back for a breath, having lost the confidence to venture any deeper into his mouth. Despite my clear lack of experience, however, Kyle made no move to deepen the embrace himself.
I met his gaze with a pout, letting out a short whine as the detective merely shrugged in response to my silent plea. Biting back my pride, I asked, “Aren’t you going to help me?”
