All five clerks of the Administrative Bureau turned simultaneously toward the newcomer.
“Wh-Who are you?” one brave soul ventured to ask. The eavesdropper leaned casually against the counter, her braided hair falling gently over her shoulder as her eyes sparkled in curiosity.
“Oh, I’m here for a new ID,” she explained brightly. A collective sigh filled the air as the three male clerks swooned at the sight of her radiant smile. A female clerk shot them a glare, her eyes silently willing them to “get it together” before approaching the mysterious woman.
“I can assist you. Did you lose your old identification card? Have you filed a lost report?” she asked.
“No—I’m uh, not from Laurent, so this is my first time getting a card. I already submitted the required documents a few days ago and was told I could pick up the issued ID today,” the woman replied.
