I pulled back quickly, determined to leave the kiss as a simple, brief peck. “All right, are we done here? Let’s head home—this place isn’t exactly ideal for this.”

“I was actually just thinking that I should bar you from entering the Investigation and Security Bureau altogether. I cannot get any work done when you are within sight,” Kyle responded playfully.

“And that would be quite problematic!” I agreed emphatically. “Should we go, then? We still need to give the trial preparations a final check. After all, there’s still a chance that Adrian could be released.”

“I have finished typing everything up already. There is nothing left for us to do except to leave the rest in the hands of fate,” he answered, his grip refusing to budge from my waist.

I desperately cast back in my memory for any other excuse. “Oh! You said you would give me a list of the nobles who signed the petition to have Adrian released—”
