The child’s plump cheeks puffed out adorably as he drank from a juice box. Although his burgundy eyes were warm, they stared at Heeyeon with a disconcerting intensity. He sent her a chilling smile that failed to reach his eyes as he finished the last of his drink.
“Noa is too kind.” Heeyeon jumped, startled, as a childish voice echoed in her head. The young boy maintained eye contact as the voice spoke again. “But Miu isn’t very nice at all.”
The walls of the cafe disappeared from sight as a movie reel of memories flashed through Heeyeon’s head. Every encounter she’d ever had with Noa played out in front of her eyes, starting from her earliest memory all the way until the day her sister died. As she tried to focus on the present, however, the events of the past hour started to blur in her mind.
