I placed the land deed in front of the Minister of Justice with a light tap of my fingernail. A ghostly pallor overtook his face as he scanned the stamped document.

“When did you involve yourself with the Mauviana matter?” he asked nervously.

“I took over ownership of the mine from Eleanora. She transferred it to me before her estate was seized by the imperial family, so it should be legally binding,” I explained.

With this insignificant-looking document, I was granted full rights over the entirety of the mines and their contents. While it would secure enough wealth for myself, my children, and even my grandchildren’s children, I still had no intention of serving Laurent for free. It’s not that I was being greedy, though—truthfully, it wasn’t about the money at all. I could already tell that the nobles in attendance didn’t take Miu’s child-like form seriously, and I was worried that if we catered to their whims free of charge, then they would end up taking advantage of his power.
