Upon landing back in Kyle’s living room, we began the arduous task of packing for the next couple of months. Well—Kyle was packing. I decided my energy was better spent taking advantage of the moment to pry more information about his childhood from him.

“How much older than you is the Duke?” I asked curiously.

“Oh, you do not know? He is either fifteen or sixteen years my elder,” Kyle responded nonchalantly. Upon registering my astonishment, he chuckled and continued, “He is over forty, Miss Noa. You must not be deceived by appearances.”

“Over forty?” I gasped.

“He will be turning forty-four this year, I believe. His son will be graduating from the academy next year,” he explained.

My mouth gaped open in shock as I recalled the Duke’s face. He had seemed to be in his thirties at most—I would never have guessed that he was already past forty! The Leonard family had clearly been blessed with some good genes.
