Noa’s teeth worried at her bottom lip as unshed tears continued to fill her lash line.
“If I start saying strange things now that the restraints are gone, please hit me,” she pleaded, the request only half-joking.
“Do you truly believe I would ever raise a hand to you? Stop assaulting your lip and look at me.” Kyle’s tone bled with a mixture of exasperation and warmth as he responded. Gently, he turned her gaze to meet his squarely. “When everything has been concluded, we will escape to Sorent for some much-needed respite. It is unlike you, Miss Noa, to become worked up over such trifles. You have surely outgrown such childishness.”
Despite his words, Kyle knew the situation was anything but trivial. At that moment, he silently vowed to shadow Noa for however long she needed him. Any time she faltered, he would be there to ensure she stayed on the right path.
A pleased flush made its way across Noa’s face at his proposal as she asked hopefully, “Will you be there, too?”
