The fairy queen gazed at me as she considered my question. “Your situation is complicated. You did not simply rise from the dead—instead, you were somehow swept away from your body and ended up in this world, where you managed to slip into a body that had been abandoned by its owner.”
Something seemed to occur to the tiny being as she continued, “That’s right. If you had died, you would have become a lost spirit, forgetting everything about your past life as you entered the world of the souls. Although your connection with this body is fragile, the fact that it exists at all suggests that it wasn’t an entirely lifeless shell. That must be why it is so attuned to you to the point of merging with your spirit.”
“A living soul and a living body,” I whispered with a growing sense of dread.
