Just as Kyle had promised, Miu’s mana immediately formed a magical shield to protect us from the pressure of the lake’s depths. The water flowed off of us gently, allowing me to stay nice and dry within the invisible cocoon.

“You must open your eyes now, Miss Noa,” Kyle said softly, his finger gently poking at my cheek in encouragement.

Edging closer to him, I allowed my eyelids to flutter open warily. At the first glimpse of the world waiting for me, my eyes widened in amazement. A soft gasp escaped my lips as any fear I had left my body. Back when I was in high school, I’d gone on a school trip to our local aquarium. One of the exhibits consisted of a glass tunnel. Its clear walls had curved around me, giving the illusion of being submerged in a deep ocean. Back then, I had been entranced by awe as I watched sharks and stingrays swim gracefully above my head.
