"Yūichirō Hyakuya Scores Zero"
"Alright everyone, I'll hand out the exams from the past few days, then you're dismissed," Sayuri Hanayori announced from the teacher's podium, holding a stack of exams. She walked down and distributed them.
"These results will influence the Cursed Gear assigned to you later. Understand the significance of these scores and strive to improve next time."
When Yūichirō Hyakuya received his paper, he saw the red markings and knew it was bad.
Shinoa Hīragi appeared silently behind him.
He quickly covered his paper.
"Not a chance."
His efforts were futile. Shinoa Hīragi swiftly snatched the paper and ran off.
"Hey! You jerk!" Yūichirō Hyakuya gave chase.
Shinoa Hīragi saw the score and jumped with excitement.
"Wow, amazing! This is… the legendary score only superheroes achieve! How is this even possible?"
"Hey! Give it back!"
They chased each other around the classroom. When Yūichirō Hyakuya caught Shinoa Hīragi, the paper was gone, mysteriously placed back on his desk.
A large, red zero dominated the paper.
Zero points.
"Wow, what's going on? He actually got zero," the other students gathered around, examining the paper.
"Seriously? Amazing!"
"He wrote all the answers in hiragana."
Enraged, Yūichirō Hyakuya shoved the students aside, grabbed his paper, crumpled it, and shoved it in his pocket.
He then found Shinoa Hīragi sitting at her desk, chin in her hands.
"You went too far," Yūichirō Hyakuya said, annoyed.
Shinoa Hīragi acted innocent. "I didn't bully you. I just made you, someone who couldn't fit in, the center of attention."
"Don't interfere! Friends are useless when killing vampires," Yūichirō Hyakuya retorted.
"Hey, are you an idiot?" Shihō Kimizuki spoke from his desk.
Yūichirō Hyakuya turned to Shihō Kimizuki, who was acting incredibly arrogant. Yūichirō Hyakuya became furious.
"What? How many points did you get, Mr. High and Mighty? Probably amazing scores, right?"
Yūichirō Hyakuya tried to grab Shihō Kimizuki's paper, but he dodged him.
Yūichirō Hyakuya then saw Shihō Kimizuki's papers—all perfect scores.
"From right to left: Latin incantations, English incantations, Japanese incantations.
I'm not very good at Latin and English, unlike you, Mr. Returning-from-Abroad."
Yūichirō Hyakuya felt a slap in the face.
"You jerk! I'll kill you before I kill any vampires!"
"Bring it on, jerk!"
They prepared to fight.
Two hands grabbed their heads, forcibly separating them.
"I said, behave yourselves," Aoki said. Like Shihō Kimizuki, Aoki had perfect scores on every exam. He had the system, allowing him to cheat.
It proved the saying: You can score 100 because you can only score 100. I can score 100 because the test is only worth 100.
Aoki, a recent transfer student, commanded more respect than even Guren Ichinose.
Yūichirō Hyakuya and Shihō Kimizuki, the classroom's constant troublemakers, were secretly afraid of Aoki, who was terrifying in both strength and methods.
With Aoki's intervention, they stopped.
Continuing would likely result in a double defeat at Aoki's hands—something they'd experienced before.
Unlike Guren Ichinose, Aoki didn't hold back; he could actually kill them.
The classroom door opened, revealing Guren Ichinose, absent for ten days.
"What's this? So quiet. Did they kill those two brats?"
Guren Ichinose's entrance immediately drew everyone's attention.
Yūichirō Hyakuya approached him without hesitation. "Hey, Guren, you said you'd give me Cursed Gear. How much longer do I need to wait?"
Yūichirō Hyakuya feared Aoki, but not Guren Ichinose.
"Shut up, idiot, let me talk," Shihō Kimizuki shoved Yūichirō Hyakuya aside. "Lieutenant Colonel Ichinose, why were you absent for ten days? We're ready to make pacts with demons."
Guren Ichinose scoffed. "What? You useless brats are ready to make pacts with demons?"
"Of course!" Yūichirō Hyakuya said. "Even if Kimizuki isn't, I am!"
Shihō Kimizuki: "Shut up!"
Yūichirō Hyakuya: "You shut up!"
They started fighting again.
"Can these guys resist demonic influence?" Guren Ichinose asked Sayuri Hanayori.
Sayuri Hanayori: "At least those two are far stronger than I was at sixteen."
Guren Ichinose: "The others?"
Sayuri Hanayori: "Surprisingly, Yoichi Saotome shows overwhelming mental stability against demons."
Guren Ichinose: "Really? I hate trouble. Let's test them first."
Guren Ichinose grasped his Cursed Gear.
"Wait, wait! You're serious?" Sayuri Hanayori exclaimed.
Seeing Guren Ichinose's Cursed Gear, Shinoa Hīragi stood. "Oh my, is the Lieutenant Colonel going to attack?"
"Those who die will regret their insufficient training," Guren Ichinose said, drawing his Cursed Gear. Black mist erupted from the crimson blade, engulfing him.
