"Mitsuba Sangū"
After bypassing the soldiers, Aoki, Yūichirō Hyakuya, and Shinoa Hīragi reached the area beyond the walls, a desolate expanse of ruins mirroring the outer perimeter.
As they emerged, they heard a girl shouting, her voice carrying on the wind.
"Lieutenant Colonel Guren, I absolutely refuse to accept this! Why do you always assign me to squads full of rookies? I joined the vampire extermination unit at thirteen!
Even if I were to be the squad leader training rookies, I could understand.
Before, it was always that giggling Shinoa Hīragi as squad leader, but now you've made a rookie with zero combat experience the squad leader—someone named Aoki, right? Why do you trust him so much?"
"Don't you know that a team leader without sufficient combat experience can lead to the team's destruction?"
The three looked towards the source of the voice. A girl with twin pigtails and blonde hair was vehemently complaining to Guren Ichinose, occasionally mentioning Aoki and Shinoa Hīragi.
"Who is that?" Yūichirō Hyakuya asked, observing the girl.
"Who knows? Maybe a new member," Shinoa Hīragi replied nonchalantly.
They descended the steps and found Shihō Kimizuki and Yoichi Saotome waiting.
"Oh, everyone's here," Guren Ichinose stated, seemingly unfazed by the girl's outburst, but his gaze quickly shifted to Aoki and the others upon their arrival.
"Ah, Shinoa Hīragi!" The girl noticed them, her eyes narrowing when she saw Aoki.
"You're Aoki, right? Lieutenant Colonel Guren trusts you enough to make you squad leader despite your lack of experience. Let's test your strength."
As she moved to challenge Aoki, Guren Ichinose grabbed her arm. "While I don't approve of fighting, heed my advice: Don't provoke him. You might not even know how you died."
Shinoa Hīragi chimed in, "Yeah, Mitsuba-chan, Aoki's incredibly strong. I was defeated by him in a single move."
"Damn it!" Though clearly unconvinced, dissatisfied, Mitsuba refrained from further antagonizing Aoki, wary of Guren Ichinose's displeasure.
"Ding!"
Mitsuba Sangū:
Identity: Second daughter of the Sanomiya family.
Personality: Tsundere, gentle.
Skills: Heaven Shaped Dragon.
Combat Power: 2148
Overall Assessment: B-level
The system notification appeared in Aoki's mind, displaying the girl's profile.
He showed no interest in Mitsuba Sangū and didn't mind her unreasonable outburst.
While he possessed considerable combat experience from the Demon Slayer world, he was technically a rookie here, and he was deliberately concealing his full strength.
With everyone assembled, their first real mission was about to begin—at least for Yūichirō Hyakuya and the others. Aoki, Mitsuba Sangū, and Shinoa Hīragi were seasoned veterans.
"I'll take a different route to Shinjuku. Before we part ways," Guren Ichinose gestured towards Mitsuba Sangū, who looked utterly resigned. "This is your new teammate, Mitsuba Sangū.
Moon Demon squads usually have five members; fewer than that, and you're easily killed by armed-level vampires."
"But your squad is special—six members. You're the only squad in the Moon Demon Company, besides my Guren Squad, with all Black Demon-level Cursed Gear."
"I'm naming your squad 'Aoki Squad.' Aoki is your captain. Obey his commands. From the moment you leave the walls, no infighting or solo actions. Is that clear?"
Mitsuba Sangū frowned, clearly wanting to speak but ultimately remaining silent.
"Everyone here is a comrade. Comrades are more important than family. You must risk your lives to protect them.
Your first mission: Go to Harajuku. Vampires have established a base there, keeping humans as livestock. Eliminate them, rescue the humans, then proceed to Shinjuku."
Guren Ichinose departed, leaving Aoki Squad's six members behind.
Aoki finally spoke. "Let me be clear: in my opinion, this squad is pathetic except for me. I won't restrict your actions. Do whatever you want, as long as you don't leave the squad. Even if Guren Ichinose forbids solo actions, I permit them."
Mid-sentence, Mitsuba Sangū stepped forward and aimed a kick at Aoki's head.
However, Aoki's reaction speed surpassed hers.
He caught her foot before it could even come close to his head.
"What? Do you have a problem with that?" Aoki's gaze was cold and his tone dismissive.
Mitsuba Sangū's face darkened. "What kind of leader allows solo actions? It's a recipe for disaster!"
Aoki had a ready response. "Disaster? You blame me for allowing solo actions? No. When someone's strong enough, solo actions are perfectly acceptable, like me."
"And you? Even if you five stick together, you're likely to fail. Why? Because you're weak. I've experienced things you can't even imagine. Don't try to argue with me. When you're in a desperate situation, you'll understand what I mean."
"You jerk!" Mitsuba Sangū exploded with rage, ready to attack, but Shinoa Hīragi quickly intervened, grabbing her arm.
Shaking her head at Mitsuba Sangū, Shinoa Hīragi whispered in her ear, "Mitsuba-chan, don't get angry. He may seem indifferent, but he actually cares about his comrades more than anyone.
Just wait and see. If you're in danger, he'll save you. So, don't make things awkward with him right now. And, his strength is truly exceptional. I know from personal experience."
