"Guren vs. Mika"
"Aoki?" Mitsuba Sangū, momentarily stunned after witnessing Aoki's lightning-fast dispatch of the vampires, finally recognized him.
Turning to the three shocked members of his squad, Aoki's gaze remained impassive; he didn't offer any words of reassurance.
"Guren's issued a new order. We're heading to the 5th Street intersection. They're engaged with the main vampire force. We need to hurry," Aoki stated flatly.
Yūichirō Hyakuya and Shinoa Hīragi arrived, breathless from their run.
"Yoichi Saotome, are you alright?" Yūichirō Hyakuya was the first to ask after Mitsuba Sangū and the others.
"Yeah, we're fine," Yoichi Saotome replied after a pause.
"The vampires? Wasn't there a whole squad?" Shinoa Hīragi asked, but the scattered Level 2 vampire clothing on the ground answered her question.
Aoki clapped Yūichirō Hyakuya on the shoulder, emphasizing, "Guren's issued a new order. Go to the 5th Street intersection. They're fighting the main vampire force. We need to move now."
Yūichirō Hyakuya responded resolutely. "Right! Let's go wipe them out!"
At the 5th Street intersection…
Guren Ichinose was engaged in a fierce battle with Mikaela Hyakuya, Yūichirō Hyakuya's closest friend. Guren, however, was unaware that his opponent was the person Yūichirō Hyakuya constantly worried about.
Other members of the Vampire Extermination Unit were also fighting. Only Ferid Bathory, the seventh progenitor, was observing from a nearby utility pole.
Guren Ichinose and Mikaela Hyakuya had been fighting for some time, neither gaining a decisive advantage; it was a fairly even match.
"Whoa, you're pretty strong," Guren Ichinose said, creating distance after another clash.
"Is that so? You're not strong at all," Mikaela Hyakuya replied, his gaze cold. Years as a vampire had fostered a deep aversion to humanity; he only wanted to take Yūichirō Hyakuya away from them (though he didn't particularly like vampires either).
Guren Ichinose suddenly charged, but instead of attacking, he pressed a talisman to Mikaela Hyakuya's forehead.
"Explode, Aundō Myōō Curse!"
The talisman glowed intensely, then exploded with devastating force, far exceeding a helicopter missile, causing a nearby, already damaged building to collapse.
Mikaela Hyakuya, however, had effortlessly dodged the attack.
"You dodged that? Impressive," Guren Ichinose said, not entirely surprised. Mikaela Hyakuya possessed strength on par with a noble. If a noble-level vampire could be so easily defeated, the human situation wouldn't be so dire.
"The explosion was too slow," Mikaela Hyakuya said coldly. "And do you think such an ancient curse works on vampires?"
"Haha, as expected of Mikaela. That overwhelming power and arrogant attitude. But that arrogance will be your downfall. Need my help? I'd be happy to," Ferid Bathory said, descending from his observation post.
"What do you mean? I won't lose," Mikaela Hyakuya said, irritated.
"Haha, if you think you won't lose, look at your feet," Ferid Bathory prompted.
Mikaela Hyakuya finally noticed the numerous interwoven green threads beneath his feet, immediately understanding the danger.
"The enemy never intended a one-on-one fight, Mikaela," Guren Ichinose stated.
Seeing Mikaela Hyakuya notice the trap, Guren Ichinose signaled Shigure Yukimi. "It's exposed, Shigure. Go!"
Shigure Yukimi manipulated the green threads, causing them to tighten and slice towards Mikaela Hyakuya like razor-sharp blades.
Dodging was easy for Mikaela Hyakuya, and he effortlessly leaped over the attack.
"Norito Goshi, activate the illusion!"
But the attack didn't end there. At Guren Ichinose's command, Norito Goshi took a puff from his pipe, releasing pink smoke that coalesced into a monstrous shark, lunging at Mikaela Hyakuya in mid-air.
Mikaela Hyakuya performed a graceful sidestep, but as he landed, Guren Ichinose appeared behind him, sword raised.
"Checkmate, vampire!"
Just as Guren Ichinose was about to deliver the killing blow, Ferid Bathory intervened, blocking the attack.
"You owe me one, little Mika," Ferid Bathory said, before punching Guren Ichinose in the face, sending him flying at least twenty meters before crashing into a ruined building.
Sayuri Hanayori and the others were stunned.
"Damn it, this is completely different from what I expected. That silver-haired vampire is exceptionally strong," Guren Ichinose muttered, blood trickling from a head wound, his gaze fixed on Ferid Bathory and Mikaela Hyakuya.
Ferid Bathory turned to Mikaela Hyakuya. "Don't underestimate humans, Mikaela. They're tenacious, greedy, and underhanded. Though, that might be a bit harsh considering your past."
"You're annoying," Mikaela Hyakuya replied curtly.
"Haha, then let's get serious. Two against one…" Ferid Bathory started to suggest a team-up, but Mikaela Hyakuya cut him off.
"It's already over. I've seen through their tactics."
"Arrogant, as always. Is that arrogance a remnant of your human past?" Ferid Bathory mused.
