The moment Kolton walked away, the real pain began.
It started as a sharp ache in my chest, like someone had driven a knife between my ribs. I pressed my hands against my heart, gasping for air.
Then it spread.
Fire raced through my veins, burning me from the inside out. My bones felt like they were cracking, splintering into a thousand pieces.
I doubled over, my knees hitting the rough concrete of the rooftop.
