Kimi's POV
My mother's words hit me like a cold wave. The pack house? My stomach twisted into knots at the thought of stepping foot in that place, knowing Kolton would be there.
"Why would we go there, Mom?" The question tumbled out before I could stop it.
Her expression softened as she reached for my trembling hands. "Kimi, Alpha Sean is our leader. When he calls, we answer."
"There has to be a reason though. I've never been invited before." My voice cracked despite my efforts to sound composed.
The truth was, I couldn't bear the thought of seeing Kolton again. Not after yesterday. Not after he shattered my heart into a million pieces with his cruel rejection.
Mom settled beside me on the worn couch, her weathered hands still holding mine. "Let me tell you something I should have shared long ago."
I watched her face transform as memories surfaced, pain and gratitude warring in her eyes.
