Kolton sprawled across his bed, staring at the ceiling with a scowl etched deep into his features. Alvin's party invitation felt like a burden he had no desire to carry. Something about the whole situation left a bitter taste in his mouth, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly why his anger toward Alvin burned so intensely.
His phone buzzed insistently on the nightstand. Brennan's name flashed across the screen for the third time in ten minutes.
"What do you want, Brennan?" Kolton answered with barely concealed irritation.
"Everyone's asking where you are, man. The party's already started and you're nowhere to be found."
Kolton rolled over, pressing his face into the pillow. "I told you already. I'm not going."
"Since when do you turn down parties? Especially Alvin's parties. What's eating at you?"
"I'm just not feeling it tonight."
Brennan's voice took on a knowing tone. "I think I know what this is really about."
