Venom knew very well that he was no match for Hybrid. In fact, he wasn't a match for any of the four symbiotes that made up Hybrid.
Venom was the most ordinary, most unremarkable symbiote on Klyntar. He wasn't like the members of the cosmic special forces from his home, who had special abilities and could choose kind hosts. Nor was he like a few of the criminals.
He was just an ordinary symbiote you could find anywhere.
Venom knew very well where his strength to fight Hybrid came from—it came from his host, from this young man named Peter Parker. Whether the other person was strong or weak, he would make the same choice, unlike Venom.
Venom was a coward, an ordinary symbiote who didn't dare to fight back when kidnapped by bad symbiotes. He could only obediently be taken away.
But luckily, that was how he met his host.
"Come on, you ugly bastard!" Venom clenched his fists together, using his joined hands as a hammer to slam hard into Hybrid's face. He hammered again and again, with no time to hesitate. He had to attack continuously, constantly weakening the opponent to create an opportunity for Peter.
[Give me a moment.]
That's what Peter Parker said.
And Venom trusted his host.
So Venom, at full power, hammered Hybrid over and over again. It didn't matter if there wasn't much damage; the important thing was not to give Hybrid a chance to counter. But Hybrid wasn't that easy to deal with. After just a few punches, he grabbed Venom's fists.
Hybrid's enhanced strength had already surpassed that of Spider-Man's enhanced strength. Hybrid landed a powerful headbutt on Venom, knocking him down and kicking him over. His right hand transformed into a sharp blade and stabbed toward Venom. Venom roared and grabbed the blade with both hands, but a corrosive, highly potent acid began to flow from the blade, eating away at Venom's hands. In his pain, Venom kicked Hybrid away and looked at his hands, which were regenerating slowly.
The massive tentacles on Hybrid's back propped him up. He folded his arms across his chest and looked at Venom. "You know, in every way, you are no match for me. Whether it's you or your host, there can only be one outcome."
"You brought me here to collect the Codex for Knull," Venom roared. "Right? A Codex for Knull will awaken his consciousness. Isn't that right?"
"Haha, you're a real genius."
Whether it was a taunt or not, Hybrid said this and extended both of his arms, turning them into two huge blades that rushed toward Venom. Venom barely dodged them, then lifted a massive concrete slab and threw it at Hybrid, who shattered it.
Riot's resistance and tactics, Phage's hard skin and strength, Agony's extreme agility and acid, Lasher's flexible control, all combined with Grant Ward's talent as one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s best agents.
Hybrid was now confident he could kill both Venom and Spider-Man.
He was still expanding.
Whether it was Venom, Peter, or both of them who had this thought, as Hybrid took more damage, his body expanded even more. This showed that while Hybrid looked incredibly powerful, he was actually unstable on the inside.
That's why Peter wanted to try that method, but it was a gamble, and Peter Parker wasn't sure he would win.
But then again, when did Peter Parker ever act only when he was sure to win?
The four tentacles behind Hybrid also turned into blades, like butcher knives, and attacked Venom. Venom immediately chose to flee, while also grabbing onto one of the tentacles and biting it hard. Then, he was pierced through and was thrown off by Hybrid with a shriek of pain. Venom got up and clutched his abdomen. The blades were covered in acid strong enough to injure him.
But that was enough, because he saw Hybrid's body continuing to expand little by little.
Venom extended his hand toward Hybrid, and the Iron Spider suit, missing a head, flew up and began to attack Hybrid. Most of the attacks couldn't break through the other party's tough skin, but hadn't Venom just bitten one of the tentacles? The Iron Spider suit aimed directly at that wound and kept attacking. Hybrid impatiently grabbed the Iron Spider suit with a tentacle, so the Iron Spider suit immediately self-destructed, and the explosion from the arc reactor blew off one of his tentacles.
"You idiot, you know you're no match for me. Why are you resisting?"
Hybrid's tentacles regenerated quickly, and his height had already ballooned to six meters. Venom clutched his wound, but just looked at Hybrid and grinned.
"Do you hate it here?"
"What?"
"The human rock music, the car horns, the flames, all the annoying light. Do you hate it here?" Venom smiled and launched one last charge toward Hybrid. "Did your host ever ask you if you hated it here?"
Are you afraid? Are you afraid of being lonely?
"Or did he ever ask you, 'Do you miss home? Are you lonely?'"
These were the questions Peter Parker had asked him.
Venom roared and charged. Hybrid, unable to understand Venom's actions, used his four tentacles to block Venom. But that massive black body was getting smaller, becoming agile, slender, and elegant, transforming into a lean, black-clad Spider-Man. Under the attack of the now-oversized Hybrid, he was incredibly agile and nimble. He stepped on Hybrid's tentacles. Before the acid could cover his feet, his webbing had already stuck to Hybrid's head, and he had already leaped onto Hybrid's head.
He pressed his hands on Hybrid's head.
"You know what? After I found out that your body was unstable and would get bigger, I came up with an idea. You know I've been to other universes, right?"
"Got you!"
Hybrid's hands grabbed for his head, but Venom detached from Peter's body, leaving only a part connected to Peter. He transformed into a giant mouth and bit onto Hybrid's hands, clamping down on them tightly.
Peter spoke another little secret to Hybrid.
"In another universe, I once lifted a hammer, a hammer that could summon lightning."
Hybrid's eyes widened.
"So, maybe the lightning I release still has the properties of that hammer. You guys are very familiar with that thing, aren't you?"
In the next moment, a massive bolt of lightning shot into the sky, illuminating the night over Manhattan.
