For a city, the best time is when you haven't been there, only heard of it; the second best time is when you only visit for one day.
Take Lisbon's old town, for instance. It boasts the world's oldest trams, an unpowered sightseeing elevator built in the early 20th century, and ancient buildings filled with 19th-century charm. If you are just here as a tourist, these historical buildings, paired with Portugal's urban folk music, "Fado," certainly offer a unique flavor.
"But for the city itself, this is a symbol of shame. People live in stale old houses, chasing past glories through song." The man, with a disheveled beard, poured himself a glass of water. After downing the entire glass, he looked out the window.
The Wild Hunt thought he would be waiting obediently in Madrid for them to corner him. No one knew he had already arrived. Even less did anyone know that he already knew who the so-called reinforcements from S.H.I.E.L.D. were and what their capabilities were.
The man took off his green and black striped T-shirt, and a gust of sand drifted out of the window.
For the Midtown High students participating in the cultural trip, excluding the day they landed, the entire tour group had only one planned day in Lisbon. On the third day of the trip, everyone would take a bus to Madrid, the capital of Spain, and spend a total of three days there. Therefore, they only had one day to sightsee in Lisbon.
The bad news was that Harry realized his girlfriend truly hadn't brought a swimsuit to Southern Europe. The even worse news was that, although Lisbon is a coastal city, Harry had forgotten one very important thing: normally, you don't go to the beach in the city center.
Combined with the one-day itinerary in Lisbon, his Southern European fantasy was shattered.
"And then, Peter is incredibly busy. He actually knows how to take pictures—no, his photography skills are actually that good," Harry couldn't help but sigh as he watched Peter busy himself with his camera. When a photographer is discovered, they become the busiest person in the entire tour group. Harry sometimes wondered if Peter, busy all day, could even manage to take a picture with Gwen or Cindy?
Thinking of this, Harry glanced to the side but didn't find Gwen and Cindy. Instead, he saw Jessica and Felicia sitting in a café. He couldn't shake the feeling that Jessica seemed less active recently.
Inside the café, Felicia was talking to Jessica about just that: "You've been getting less and less active lately."
"Huh? Is it that obvious?" Jessica was momentarily stunned, then laughed nonchalantly: "Did you notice?"
"I ran into Dr. Jonathan once and specifically asked him. He's developing a special antidote for you."
After seeing Dr. Jonathan Drew developing genetically modified spiders to treat Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on the Osborn Tech system, Felicia knew who it was for. There was a small chance it was for Osborn, but if Norman Osborn or Harry had ALS, he wouldn't just develop one project to treat it. Therefore, the one suffering from the disease could only be Jessica.
"Are you planning to keep it a secret from everyone?"
"How can you call it keeping a secret? I just don't want to trouble anyone else. I'll be in a wheelchair sooner or later, and telling people now would only make them worry," Jessica Drew shrugged. "Besides, everyone is a member of the detective agency. Shouldn't they discover the problem and deduce the truth themselves?"
Felicia could only sigh with her. After a while, Jessica quietly spoke up.
"Sometimes, I wonder if I had just died during the Battle of New York, and never found out about this..."
"Shut up." Felicia frowned, interrupting Jessica. "Don't say such inauspicious things. Besides, don't you still have one deduction left to complete?"
"Hmm... Spider-Man? My dad told me he's working with Spider-Man but wouldn't tell me who he is, asking me not to bother him. I guess that's fair, but I still want to say thank you to him face-to-face while I still can move."
"Maybe he's already heard it?"
Jessica narrowed her eyes, then suddenly smiled at Felicia: "Why do I get the feeling you know him, too?"
"Isn't there a website dedicated to recording the messages of people who want to thank Spider-Man?" Felicia just shrugged: "Didn't you leave a message there?"
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. Who knows."
Harry, who was watching Peter take pictures for his classmates, yawned, wondering what he should eat later. He narrowed his eyes and looked into the distance. He felt like he was having a hallucination, because in Lisbon, he actually saw... a sandstorm?
He must have been overheated by the Southern European weather. How could there be a sandstorm in Lisbon?
Harry laughed self-deprecatingly, shook his head, and looked toward the direction of the sandstorm, then squinted, because it looked very much like the sandstorm was generating in the distance and getting closer.
Not only that, the sandstorm seemed to have... a face.
"Peter! Peter!"
Peter, who was taking pictures for Flash and Betty, looked at Harry in confusion, wondering why he was shouting all of a sudden. His Spider-Sense wasn't going off, was it? He followed Harry's pointed finger and saw the overwhelming sandstorm, as well as an incredibly blurry face.
Holy cow! Sandman!
Wait, isn't the scale of this Sandman absolutely terrifying?
Peter opened his mouth, then immediately realized something and shouted loudly: "Everyone, hurry up and find an indoor place to hide! Quick! Find a place to hide and close all the doors and windows!"
Hearing Peter's shout, people looked up and saw the overwhelming sandstorm and the huge, blurry human face. Peter Parker set an example, rushing out first, finding a shop to hide in, and urging his classmates to come in. After Flash and the others squeezed inside, they realized one problem.
Where was Peter Parker?
"Ha, Sandman was supposed to appear in Madrid. Next time, Silver Sable, please make your intelligence clearer."
Spider-Man, wearing his conventional suit, appeared on the roof of a convenience store. Peter checked the parameters of all his equipment, then asked his partner: "How was your rest, Venom?"
[Perfect condition, ah-ha, I want to take on ten of them at once!]
"I'm not sure you'd want to take on ten of this kind of Sandman."
