The wind not only scattered the Elementals' ferocious assault but also ruffled Sylvia's fringe. She brushed back the stray hairs and asked incredulously, "Are you Gandalf?"
"Uh, no, but I know a Gandalf. Let me warn you first, my magic use is extremely draining. I can only manage a few moves. And I'll soon have to, well, attend to other business."
The Watoomb's Wind spell, as the name suggests, borrows power from Watoomb. Peter has no relation to Watoomb, so this was a genuine loan, and Peter instantly felt a weakness emanating from his soul. Fortunately, he only needed to use the spell once and could rely on natural recovery afterward.
As for the remaining spell, it didn't require borrowing power.
However, hearing Peter's words, Sylvia froze. She looked at Spider-Man, scrutinizing him for a moment before asking, "But... but if you go attend to other business, does that mean you won't fight them anymore?"
"I never said that. What I meant was, I need to try dealing with these four from a different angle. Of course, I'll still participate in the fight; my suit will fight on my behalf."
Sylvia was stunned again, unable to resist asking, "What do you mean by your suit..."
While the two were talking, the four Elementals floating nearby were also confused. They couldn't figure out why Spider-Man suddenly managed to conjure a gust of wind and blow away their grand entrance. How did they not know Spider-Man had this trick?
Was Hydra's intelligence system reliable or not?
"Alright, well, I actually know who you all are, but I still can't remember your names. Sandman, Hydro-Man—those are convenient." Peter didn't explain what 'suit fighting on his behalf' meant to Sylvia. He just looked at the Elementals and asked, "Do you want to surrender now? It'll be easier that way. Otherwise, if I catch you later, it'll be trouble."
"Caught by you?"
Hydro-Man, standing at the front, laughed at Spider-Man's audacity. "Perhaps you found a way to deal with me, but can you catch us? You've never succeeded, Spider-Man, and you won't now!"
"On the contrary, you'll die here!"
"I've heard that so many times," Peter shook his head helplessly.
Then, Sylvia saw Spider-Man cast another spell, clapping his hand onto his body. A spectral Spider-Man flew out from his body. "I practiced for ages to make sure it was Spider-Man that flew out, not my true identity."
Sylvia, the rest of the Wild Pack, and the Elementals were all dumbfounded by Spider-Man's move. Peter, however, didn't seem concerned. The moment his physical body slumped, Venom took over, shifted into Venom form, and greeted Sylvia, "Hello, Miss."
It took Sylvia a moment of willpower to resist raising her gun and shooting Venom. Venom, meanwhile, stretched and limbered up, then immediately charged toward the four Elementals.
"The symbiote fears fire."
Molten Man stepped forward first, sneering, and charged at Venom. "I can handle him alone!"
"Wait, we still don't know Spider-Man's..."
Hydro-Man couldn't finish his sentence because the spectral Spider-Man had already rushed in front of Molten Man, landing a punch before Venom could. Molten Man was dazed by the blow, momentarily unsure of what had happened, just as Venom hurled two liquid nitrogen bombs at him.
Peter, in his astral form, naturally ignored the opponent's flames unscathed. He also parried the opponent's punch. Essentially, Peter was attacking the opponent's soul—therefore, if the opponent's soul retaliated with a punch, Peter would be hit, but he wouldn't be affected by their high temperature or super-abilities, only by their soul's impact.
If the opponent's soul was just that of an ordinary person, the damage from that punch would be negligible.
"As expected, the essence of your powers isn't the conversion of your body into a new substance, but rather the transformation of yourselves into elemental spirit beings controlling a substance."
Peter took a deep breath. He had this suspicion before, and now it was confirmed. The Elementals' essence was like the X-Men's Rockslide; they hadn't elementalized their bodies, otherwise the body parts recovered by the Wild Pack should have reverted to flesh.
Furthermore, they hadn't genuinely transformed into a certain element, or else events like Sandman being melted by high heat or Molten Man suffering from low-temperature damage should have interfered with a portion of their physical structure.
Therefore, they had transformed into non-corporeal spirit beings, needing to use the elements they controlled to form a new body in order to interact with matter. This was why Peter could parry their punches—because their essence was also spiritual, and that punch was actually spirit hitting spirit.
If they had purely transformed their bodies into elements, Peter wouldn't have been able to hit them at all!
At this moment, the charging Venom, utilizing the liquid nitrogen to cool Molten Man, slammed a punch into his body's solidifying liquid metal. Molten Man, sent flying by the punch, desperately began repairing his body damaged by Venom, simultaneously yelling out.
"Careful! The Spider-Man that floated out of Spider-Man's body, he can hurt us!"
"Speaking of which, I should thank you. If you hadn't turned yourselves into spirit beings, it would have been hard for me to deal with you in a wizardly way, you know, due to the rules of the magic world and all that." Peter's soul floated in mid-air, shrugging. "So, I'll ask one last time, give me a straight answer: surrender or not!"
"Take out his physical body!"
Whirlwind, who had been silent, roared, "Astral Projection isn't without flaws. Kill his body, and let's see if he can still deal with us!"
Just then, a Jeep made a dramatic, drifting entrance, crashing directly into the four Elementals who were busy arguing. Black Cat executed a stylish superhero landing beside Sylvia. "Looks like I didn't miss the show."
"That car you totaled cost twenty thousand dollars," Sylvia coldly added. Felicia offered an awkward laugh. Cindy, also landing, sensed Peter's location, ultimately confirming one thing.
She could sense both his soul and his physical body.
