Chapter 348 - Chapter 348: Earthling subspecies

[[New York City of planet Earth within the Milky Way Galaxy is being invaded by the forces of The Mad Titan, Kronos, who seeks one of the Infinity Orbs.

Military forces, along with Earth's mightiest heroes, The Defenders, have joined the fight to push back the invaders, but they need your help.

Fight alongside Earth's Defenders to push back the invading forces and save New York City from destruction.]]

[[Points will be rewarded based on the difficulty of the enemy defeated, while points will be lost for any allies of innocents hurt or killed.]]

[[The competitor with the most points at the end of the battle will be the winner of the match.]]

[[Match begins in 1 minute.]]

[[Time remaining until start of match: 00:59.]]

"And there we have it, folks, although the scenario for this City Defence match is a bit different from normal, the basic gist is still the same, Honcho began to explain. "The competitor with the most points at the end of the match will be declared the winner of the Charity Match."

"Well, at least that part of the match hasn't changed, along with the fact that the harder enemies are worth more points. Though it's still unusual to have to fight alongside allies in a City Defence match, and to make things even more interesting, the competitors can lose points should their attacks hurt or kill their allies and innocents." Dulaebella said with interest.

"I wonder if that includes your competitors," Raella said thoughtfully.

"What do you mean?" Dulaebella asked.

"Well, it says that you lose points for attacking allies, right? Well, while they are competing against each other, they are all technically still allies since they're all fighting against the invading force to defend the city, so does attacking a rival competitor lose you points?" Raella explained.

"That's actually a good question and one we don't have an answer for. Our Sportcast team, that are communicating with the UMB Cup committee, will try to find out the answer to that question as soon as possible," Honcho stated.

💫💫💫

"Loose points? The City Defence matches have never had a function where competitors can lose points? What is going on?" Director Opealbeard asked in bewilderment.

"Haha, you may not understand what's going on, but it's certainly interesting and has got the audience in the stadium hooked, look," Maiya said as she pointed out to the stadium.

Not long after the charity match had started, many of the audience members had lost interest in it and either went to get something to eat and drink, started talking with their friends, or began playing with their Unibands; essentially, only a minority of the audience remained interested in the charity match.

Now, however, almost every seat was filled, and the audience was paying close attention to the charity match on the large holographic screens while discussing it animatedly with those around them.

"That's not all, Director," An assistant of Director Opealbeard suddenly said before continuing, "The viewership numbers are still on the rise, and since an announcement was posted on Xer-verse about an alien invasion of a planet never seen before with Terran-looking individuals that have strange powers, the count has started to spike."

"You mean people are finding this craziness interesting?" Director Opealbeard asked in surprise.

"That does seem to be the case, Director."

"It doesn't matter what race you are, or what galaxy you originate from. People will always find things that are new and unusual, interesting," Maiya stated with a smile.

"Fine, fine, let it play out, but keep an eye on the viewership numbers. I want a full report on this after the opening ceremony concludes, also find out why this happened in the first place, and if it will happen again, or it's just a one-off," Director Opealbeard ordered.

"Yes, Director."

"It seems that you inviting Diva Lorelie to perform at the opening ceremony was a genius idea, Director. Not only did she pull in many more viewers, but even her boyfriend is pulling in many new viewers, though that wasn't planned," Maiya said before focusing back on the holographic screen before her.

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): So it's basically a tower defence game, just on a city scale. You gain points for killing enemies and lose points for losing troops.]

[AlamoMatador4thewin (Earth): Yeah, though in this case, you lose points for attacking or killing your allies and the innocents.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): It's totally like the streamers entered a VR game, that's so badass, I'm totally jealous.]

[DeverinianLordMalacoss (Deverinian 9): Oh, another new friend. Also, it's not VR, that's something else, this is holographic.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): Too bad he missed the actual VR game part of the story. Kekeke.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): Wait, did I miss it? Noooooo, can I go watch a rerun somewhere? Where are the VODs? Where are the VODs?]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): Sorry, bro, streamer doesn't have VODs?]

[RealOtaku (Earth): What, no VODs? WTF, is the streamer worried about DMCA strikes like the big-name streamers on MitchTV that always delete their VODs?]

[Justiceistruth (Earth): The streamer regularly streams movies and music, bro, so no, he's not worried about DMCA strikes.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): That's like nothing special, dude, every streamer has started doing that since the major streaming platforms decided to one day buy licensing rights.]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): Kek, the Otaku doesn't know.]

[Noobkiller9000 (Earth): Aren't Otakus supposed to spend their life cooped up in their room doing nothing but using their computers to play games, watch anime and surf the net? How doesn't he know?]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): It's not RealOtaku but FakeOtaku. Kekeke.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): WTF, dudes, that's harsh. 😭]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Ignore the trolls, RealOtaku. You may not know this, but the whole reason the streaming platforms purchased the licensing rights for music and movie watching in the first place is because of the streamers' actions.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): Huh? 😵‍💫]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): The streaming platforms are unable to ban the streamer for some reason, so the streamer is free to do whatever he likes on his streams, including killing people.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): For realz? 😱]

[CEOHopkins (Earth): Makes me happy I didn't buy those shares in MitchTV back when I had the chance.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Yeah, apparently all MitchTV does is lose Rainforest money.]

[CEOHopkins (Earth): Especially now that it has finally got a true rival in Throw.]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Oh, you mean that platform that's been trying to buy all the top streamers onto their platform and is backed by the online casino Bet?]

[CEOHopkins (Earth): That's the one, my sources tell me that they are actually interested in having the streamer go exclusive on their platform since he currently streams on every platform on Earth, they're even willing to offer him his very own catergory.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): What the 'IRL Killing' category? Kekeke.]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): Sounds better than the 'Dog shock collar' category.]

[AlamoMatador4thewin (Earth): Good luck to Throw with that. I don't think they can exactly send one of their agents out to conduct a meeting with him. Kek.]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): I wonder how many air miles Amex would give them if they did? Kekeke.]

[NonpareilRaphilia (Aaru): There they go again, talking about stuff none of us understand.]

[DeverinianLordMalacoss (Deverinian 9): True, but it's interesting to watch, and we're always learning new things about Earth, such as how they have an Earthling subspecies called Otaku.]

[Every Earth viewer: ….]

[1000yearsofdeath (Earth): 😱 Here that RealOtaku, you're not even a true Earthling, but a subspecies. Kekeke.]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): I always thought Otakus are a bit weird, not gonna lie. Maybe this explains why.🤣 ]

[Emojisonly (Earth): 🤣 ]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): OMG I'm cracking up, oh this is killing me, Otaku subspecies. 🤣🤣🤣🤣]

[RealOtaku (Earth): DeverinianLordMalacoss, WTF dude, that's like super harsh. 😭]

[DeverinianLordMalacoss (Deverinian 9): Did I say something wrong?]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Otaku is not a subspecies of Earthlings. It's a nickname given to those people who rarely step outside and spend their lives watching anime or movies, reading manga, or playing games and surfing the net.]

[NonpareilRaphilia (Aaru): 🤣 Way to be diplomatic, Lord Malacoss. 🤣 ]

[Phoenixempress (Fenix Nest): Remind me never to ask you to negotiate on behalf of the Phoenix race, Malacoss. 🤣 ]

[DeverinianLordMalacoss (Deverinian 9): … My apologies, RealOtaku, I meant no offence.]

[RealOtaku (Earth): It's cool, dude. 😭 It's cool. 😭]

[Emojisonly (Earth): Trust an Otaku to address the leader of an entire planet as 'Dude'. 😮‍💨]

[RealOtaku (Earth): Entire planet? What?]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): Haven't you noticed that every member has the name of a planet in Parentheses?]

[RealOtaku (Earth): Parenthe what, dude?]

[Celebrityhunter69 (Earth): Parentheses idiot, you know the ( and ) on your keyboard. Honestly, how can you be an Otaku and not know that?]

[RealOtaku (Earth): Oh my bad, anyway, I just thought it was some weird new setting the streaming platform had given the viewers.]

[Celebrityhunter69 (Earth): Wrong. ❌]

[Whostolemyduck (Earth): That's incorrect. The word within the Parentheses or ( and ) is the name of the planet, ship, or location the said viewer is watching and chatting from.]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (Challenger): Like me, I'm on the shuttle Challenger right now.]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): Yeah, I've been meaning to ask about that, but how do you even watch a stream on a NASA shuttle?]

[Puntanghunter69Ver2 (Challenger): Errr the internet. You know shuttles have access to that so that it can connect with NASA back on Earth, right?]

[StealthAssassin9 (Earth): …]

[Gunlovergirl (Earth): I seriously worry about some of the viewers in this chat.]

[CEOHopkins (Earth): Agreed.]

[Justiceistruth (Earth): That's rich coming from a gun nut like you, Gunlovergirl.]
