Chapter 92: The Dark-Dark Fruit Appears

---

Dark Island—also known as the Island of Eternal Night.

This mysterious island, shrouded in perpetual darkness, stands in stark contrast to Enies Lobby, the "Island That Never Sleeps" of the World Government. Unlike Enies Lobby, where the sun never sets, on Dark Island, the sun never rises.

The island is located deep within Whitebeard's territory in the New World. The reason Thatch, commander of the 4th division of the Whitebeard Pirates, had arrived here was due to a disturbance—an unknown pirate crew had trespassed into Whitebeard's domain, an act that could not be ignored.

Thatch led a contingent of his crew to confront them, intending to show the might of the Whitebeard Pirates and punish the intruders for their arrogance. In the New World, even the name Whitebeard could not prevent some reckless pirates from overstepping. But such people rarely met a good end.

Interestingly, a man from the 2nd division, which currently had no acting commander, accompanied Thatch on this mission: Marshall D. Teach—the future Blackbeard.

Teach's reason for tagging along wasn't loyalty. Among the pirates who had invaded Whitebeard's territory was someone he knew: Doc Q, the sickly and sinister doctor who would later become a key member of Blackbeard's crew.

Doc Q and Teach were old acquaintances, bound by a shared ambition. Years ago, the two had made a pact: if Teach ever found the power he sought, they would leave the Whitebeard Pirates and form their own crew to conquer the world. But until now, Teach had yet to find that power, so he remained in the shadows, hiding beneath Whitebeard's banner.

Doc Q was not a member of the invading pirate crew—he merely hitched a ride, serving as an onboard doctor. When Teach learned of Doc Q's presence, he grew concerned—not for his old friend, but for Thatch.

Teach wasn't worried that Doc Q would die.

He was worried that Thatch would.

In Teach's eyes, Thatch was no match for someone like Doc Q. And he had no intention of letting his long-awaited opportunity be snatched away by a twist of fate.

---

The pirates who crossed into Whitebeard's domain were the Twin Stars Pirates, led by the Decalvan Brothers—future allies of Whitebeard, who would later be defeated and convinced by Ace to join the Whitebeard Pirates.

In the original timeline, the Decalvan Brothers once clashed with Thatch, and the result was inconclusive. But when they fought Ace later on, they were swiftly defeated. This only highlighted a troubling fact: Thatch's strength was average at best, and that was part of the reason Teach found it so easy to assassinate him in the future.

---

On Dark Island, the Decalvan Brothers and their crew were already assembled at full force, awaiting the arrival of the Whitebeard Pirates. They knew full well that stepping into Whitebeard's territory was tantamount to declaring war. There was no backing down now.

Suddenly, one of the brothers came running, excitement flashing in his eyes. In his hands was a lavender-colored Devil Fruit, shaped like a pineapple, its surface etched with the distinctive swirl patterns.

If Teach had seen it, he would have recognized it immediately:

The Yami Yami no Mi—the Dark-Dark Fruit, a Logia-type fruit said to be the most evil power in history.

"Big bro! Look what I found!" shouted Decalvan Dee, showing off the fruit with pride.

"Whoa... A Devil Fruit?" his brother murmured. "Looks like a Logia. Damn, you're lucky."

"Should I eat it now?" Dee asked.

"No," his brother said, shaking his head. "Let's identify it first. After we make it out of here, we'll check the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia and confirm what kind of ability it holds."

Devil Fruits were mysterious and varied—some offered god-like powers, others brought dangerous disadvantages. For a seasoned fighter like Dee, eating a fruit with an incompatible ability could become a liability, so it made sense to wait.

---

Just then, the ground shook with a loud boom from the direction of the harbor.

"The Whitebeard Pirates are here!" the brothers realized, expressions hardening.

"Alright, boys! Get ready!" they roared. "We're about to face the might of the Whitebeard Pirates!"

---

At the harbor, Thatch arrived with his Fourth Division.

The Decalvan Brothers scowled when they realized only one captain had been sent to deal with them.

"Thatch? Just one division commander? Is this all Whitebeard thinks of us?" one brother growled.

"I'm more than enough to handle the likes of you," Thatch replied with confidence.

"Hmph! Then we'll send your head back to Whitebeard and make him regret underestimating us!"

The brothers charged, and the battle erupted. As Thatch clashed with the Decalvan Brothers, their crews also fell into fierce combat with the Fourth Division.

---

In the chaos, Teach slipped away.

After dispatching a few enemies effortlessly, he made his way through the forest to find his old companion—Doc Q, seated with his perpetually dying horse, slouched beside a boulder.

"Hehehe... Long time no see, Doc Q!" Teach called, grinning as he approached. "What brings you here?"

Doc Q struggled to his feet and wheezed, "Fate, Teach. Fate brought me here... and told me that this is the place. The place where you'll finally obtain the power you've been waiting for."

Teach's face lit up with anticipation. "Seriously?! Doc, I've waited ten years for this moment!"

He clapped Doc Q on the shoulder, nearly knocking him over. "Tell me, where is it? Where's that power?"

"Patience..." Doc Q rasped. "Fate will place it in your hands. Just wait a little longer..."

Teach grinned wickedly, his dark ambition burning in his eyes.
